The IC21 6-Inch Downlight Shallow Incandescent Housing is an IC rated, energy efficient Air-Loc sealed new construction housing. With its 5.75-Inch height, it is meant for use in 2x6 construction, and is an ideal solution where vertical installation space is limited. The housing has a floating socket with spring for quick trim attachment and consistent bulb positioning. It contains a medium base porcelain socket with nickel-plated copper screw shell that accepts an incandescent light bulb. Bulb wattage ratings and apertures are based on trim selection. Installation of the IC21 is made easy with the Real Nail 3 telescoping system featuring bugle-headed nails for easy repositioning of housing in joist construction and integral T-bar clip to secure housing in suspended ceiling grid. Housing is vertically adjustable to accommodate up to a 1-Inch ceiling thickness and can be completely covered with insulation. The IC21 is supplied with a pre-wired junction box with (5) 1/2-Inch and (1) 3/4-Inch knockouts, (4) non-metallic sheathed cable connectors, and ground wire. UL/C-UL Listed for through-branch wiring, with a maximum of (8) 12-AWG conductors. Wet location listed when using a 241 trim. All trims are sold separately and come in a wide variety of styles and finishes to customize to your needs, including the 228, 229, 244, 247, 248, 249, 250 or XR30101 trims. Meets Washington State IECC and MEC energy codes as tested per ASTM-E283 and conforms to City of Chicago IP requirements. We needed a shallow-mount can light for our porch and these were perfect. Easy installation and quality construction. Price was better than the local big box stores.

this requires a special insert/cover not noted. also does not come with the air tight gasket, that's stated
