I opened the box and I was disappointed because I thought it was too small. I am used to bigger pans and the handle was not attached and wooden to boot. It comes seasoned already and I decided to just go with it. I made sausage and eggs and let me tell you I am so happy I decided to try it! The wooden handle is a game changer as I didn't need a pot holder to pick up the pan (not sure why I didn't figure that out sooner). This is going to be a daily use for me for sure!

Rusted after first wash. Barely wiped it with cloth. Just wanted to remove factory residue for safety before putting food in to cook. Look at the pic for results.

This is not a huge pan and is actually pretty small. It is big enough for 2 eggs and a side of meat though. It comes with a wooden handle that you attach with an eye bolt. Straight out of the box it does appear to be seasoned and I had to try it out and it performed perfectly. I will probably go through the seasoning steps on it this weekend though just because that's what I've did with all of my cast iron pans I purchased new. This would be a great pan to take camping (not hiking) and since it is cast iron it should last for a long time and be easy to maintain as long as you do your part. I have quite a few cast iron pots and pans and the only ones I have been leery of are old ones that could have been used for casting lead "nuggets". The only improvement I would say could be made is if it were a little bigger. This little guy will still see some use though I assure you.

I did a lead test where the handle screws into the actual pan. The inside tested positive. This is a lead pan coated in non-stick material.
