The look of this is better in person, so that was a nice bonus.The build quality is solid. This company has continued to improve on their quality and performance since my first one years ago.There's really nice value in this for the price point.It has a smooth reel action with pretty smooth bearings.Overall this is a nice addition to my collection of gear.

A little early for finishing season but at least I'll be ready. FYI, this review is for the 5000 model reel. A nice lightweight reel with smooth movement on the retrieval. Zero sound or feeling of friction or improperly machined parts. Very easy to switch the handle from the left to right side (pre-installed on the left). As with most better reels these days, this one doesn't come with line pre-spooled.

Bought the KastKing Verus in size 4000. More compact than I expected but have found that KastKing reels tend to use smaller frames than some other brands. Really a nicely-machined reel, with few plastic parts. From the parts list and their composition I would expect this reel to perform well in a saltwater as well as freshwater environment. It is extremely smooth and loaded with ball bearings on the reel spool as well as other strategic joints. It differs from other reels in that the oversize handle can be used either left or right handed but it screws directly into the housing, rather than meeting a screw from the other side and tightening from both sides. This seems to add a bit more stiffening to the whole reel and smoother retrieves. It does lack an anti-reverse lever, which I use often and would have preferred, but otherwise give this reel high marks for the money. It is also packaged and cushioned very nicely in the box.

Got to use this reel today and it handles great, cast great. It’s light weight as well but strong. I got the 2000 series which I will use for red fish. I have three of Kast King reels that are salt water and 2 bait casters for fresh water.

Got the 40000, mainly planning on using it for my Wacky Rig. Took it out for a quick hour around the lake bank fishing. So far working as expected. Feels like a good quality reel, nice strong drag and casting was smooth. Packaging was nice, came with parts list diagram, line lb stickers and a Kast King sticker.
