So far it work just as expected . Hope it will last. I bought the 3 year extended warranty for $2.99 too.I tried to give it a 4 and a half stars , but the web page would not take Half star. Price is reasonable. Peter S.

Received it earlier than expected and it worked for awhile but quit within two months. The Lamps sold from Sony ranges from $90 to $300 for the original lamp that lasts three years. If you want a cheap and quick fix This one will do the job but it won't last long. It only lasted us two months as stated above ^^^^ And we don't watch much tv only one or two hours every couple days.

Now let me explain how I even came to purchase this bulb in the first place... Someone had thrown away a Sony kds-r50xbr1, 50" TV in my neighborhood, I actually got it out of the dumpster :) Took it home and did a little troubleshooting, turns out the lamp was bad, ordered this one and a week later it arrived. I cleaned out the fans and whatnot just in case. Installed the lamp and it works beautifully!!!! The picture is better than my 73" and I just purchased that one 4 months ago. Sounds awesome too.Installation took 2 minutes, at first I inspected it because other reviews claim this is a cheap bulb, doesn't fit right, blew out in a few weeks. Now I can't vouch for the lifespan but it looked identical to the Phillips lamp that I replaced, fit was perfect.

I bought a pair of these for my Sony Wega KDS-R50XBR1 50" and installed the first one this evening. Zero problems with the installation, fits perfectly, the set recognized it, and it was back up and running like new within minutes. The picture quality is bright and vibrant, so all seems well. The only thing I should mention here is that I'm told some of these generic replacement lamps burn out after only a few weeks or months of use, a much shorter time frame than they normally should last. If this one happens to die a premature death, rest assured, I WILL RETURN TO UPDATE THIS REVIEW!As for right now, I can state that this is a quality replacement lamp and shipping was quick and easy through Lamps Direct.UPDATE on 02-23-2013:As promised, I'm back to report on these lamps if something were to go wrong. Today, approximately 7 months after installing the first of two replacement lamps, I'm noticing that the picture is starting to go noticeably dark which marks the beginning of the end.To be absolutely fair, this TV is on approximately 12 hours a day, so over the course of 7 months, that's nearly 2,500 hours of use. Not terrible, but I have seen others that are rated for 6,000 hours of use. Since this one started to darken at less than half of that, I felt it necessary to report and let you decide if that's good enough.UPDATE on 05-01-2013:Well, the good news is that I'm still on the same lamp! Yes, it started to darken approximately 2 months ago, but it's still working well enough to leave in. At this point, I'm up to around 3,200 hours of use and only time will tell if it makes it the full 6,000 hours.

I suppose a year and a half should be considered a victory and the lamp did its job fairly well, though it got darker and darker for the last several months and essentially blew up today. When I removed it, I notice the inside had completely shattered. My previous lamp lasted more than twice as long. Anyhow, for the price, I guess you can't expect much better. Pity. It's hard to know who to order these things from.

The Replacement lamp arrived with a broken housing. The seal that said "No warranty if seal broken" was broken. The screw that was supposed to hold the back half to the front half was not working an fell out when we removed the lamp and housing from the box. The instructions in the box were incorrect and would never work on a Sony KDS-R50XBR1.Since the housing of the bulb I was replacing was intact I removed the bulb from the old housing and put the bulb from this unit in it. I also used the leads from the original unit as they seemed of much higher quality than the replacement leads. It worked quite well.Another problem is the old housing is poorly marked. The directions for replacing the unit that Sony provides includes pushing at very specific points on the back of the housing as indicated by stickers saying "push". The back of this unit was blank.Editing the review now because the bulb has failed four days after installation. Don't waste your time or money with this product.

Our beloved SONY projection tv has served us well. When the bulb blew for the third time, I considered replacing the set with a flat screen, but my husband thought we could get another year out of it. The last time we had the bulb replaced we had thought it would still be under the extended warranty, but learned the hard way that the warranty only covered one replacement bulb. The tech that came out to service the set suggested that the next time we needed to replace the bulb that we just purchase the bulb (from him, of course) and do it ourself. (He said after the original lamp blows, a replacement lamp will only last about a year. We got about 15 months out of the last one.) When the bulb blew this time and the dreaded red light blared on the set, I did a quick check on Amazon out of curiosity and was delighted to see that I could order a bulb for about $50 cheaper than the TV tech guy. I ordered and paid the extra $4 for one day shipping. The arrived the next day packaged well. The instructions included were very helpful, easy to follow and made replacing the bulb fast. I only wish I knew what to do with the old lamp, since it cannot be thrown out in regular trash because it contains mercury.
