I got these switches to test out on a numpad that I built. As someone who still uses a Model M to type on at home and Durock Silent Shrimp Tactiles in the office, I wasn't sure I'd like these. Well, I don't. At least not subjectively. I just can't get used to typing on linears and no matter how much I tried I just wanted to go back to my tactiles. Objectively, they are well-built as you'd expect from Cherry, and even though they took a little lube to make perfectly smooth, they are otherwise quiet and have minimal stem wobble. A good option for those that like linear switches and don't want to wait excessively long times to get them.

This review is coming from someone that likes mechanical keyboards, but isn't a full blown hobbyist. It's for the silent red variant.I'm comparing these to the Boba U4s and the Gamakay Phoenix switches: both silents. Switch preference is a personal thing, so I'll try to put this in terms that could apply to everyone.Why you might like this:- The actuation force is good and firm, but not too high. If you don't like switches that engage when you accidentally brush up against them, then you'll like this.- They feel solid and come from a known brand.- Out of the box, to me, they sound fine. No need to lube unless you want an extra umph.- If you work in an office, unmute yourself while typing, or want to keep things quiet around yourself or others, this switch will fit the bill.- They don't feel scratchy to me compared to the U4s.Why you might not like this:- If you want shine-through, this keycap isn't made for that. RGB will be muted.- Prefer really low actuation forces? Look elsewhere.- Don't like the cherry design for keycaps because of wobble? I don't really notice wobble, but I don't pay that close of attention to it. If there is natural wobble, it's not bad enough compared to the other keycaps I've used.- As with many silent switches, the sound is muted, and many might feel like this makes the keys feel "squishy". I don't agree with the squishiness, but I'm not a connoisseur.Do I recommend?YES. I received the 10 piece package, and currently use it for my separate numpad. It's a close call between this and the Boba U4s, since they are most similar in actuation force, but if they showed RGB a bit better, I could easily see myself using these as my daily switches for my current keyboard. You want to try silent switches out? These could be the ones for you.

Whether you've been modding mechanical keyboards for the past decade, or you're new to the world of mechanical keyboards, chances are you have already stumbled across the classic Cherry MX Red. They are your typical run-of-the-mill linear switch, and while they are nowhere near the quality of the enthusiast-grade switches we have today in the hobby, they still hold their own very well especially for beginners. The Cherry MX2A line of switches is meant to be the next generation of switches improving upon the classic MX line. Despite Cherry touting all these "advancements" and "innovations," the MX2A line of switches is a testament to how far Cherry has fallen behind other switch manufacturers. These Cherry MX2A Red switches are advertised as being factory lubricated, although the only lubration I see is on the bottom of the spring rather than on the stem which is where it matters most. Perhaps though this was done on purpose, becaue hand lubricating the stems did nothing to reduce the scratchiness anyway. With use, the scratchiness will eventually fade away as the switches break-in from the friction between the stem and housing, but this could take a while and will not always occur equally across all switches. Despite all this, the 45 cN operating force is great as the switch is neither too heavy or too light, and I personally love the classic all-black housing design of the switches. It really is a shame though that the scratchiness is just too much for me to enjoy using these on a daily basis. As a mechanical keyboard enthusiast though who has tried tons and tons of switches, it's important to note that perhaps I am just not in Cherry's target demographic. If you have a mechanical keyboard and do not care about the enthusiast stuff and are merely looking to get some replacement switches to fix some broken ones on your keyboard, then by all means get these, but if you're accustomed to clicky or tactile switches and want to try linears, or are new to the hobby and want to try the best of the best, do not get fooled by Cherry's marketing. They may have created the MX switch, but they are not the ones who are mastering it.

I don't know how Cherry is putting out a switch this scratchy in the year 2023, but here we are. There are SO many awesome linear choices and the MX2A line was Cherry's chance to compete again, but this falls flat for me.They are lubed but only around the bottom of the spring. Nothing on the rails or stem. I tried hand lubing one, and it didn't help too much with scratchiness.They're definitely a step up from membrane keyboards, but I'm disappointed that this isn't better coming from the OG switch maker. If you're buying switches for a custom build, don't buy these. They're great for 5 years ago, not 2023 coming on 2024.
