About this item

  • 【2-5 Stops Light Reduction】Take complete control over exposure settings with the variable neutral density filter, offering 2-5 stops of light reduction. Effortlessly reduce shutter speeds and widen apertures for stunning effects.
  • 【Premium Optical Glass】Made by importing AGC glass, the filter reduces light entering the lens without affecting the overall color balance and reduces reflections and glare, ensuring superior image quality.
  • 【No "X" Cross 】This filter frame with a self-lock design and hard stops at each end of the exposure range-control filter ring has perfectly avoided the black "X" problem commonly seen in variable ND filters.
  • 【28 Multi-Layer Coatings】K&F Concept optical engineers developed a multi-layer coating technology, offering waterproof, oil-repellent, and scratch-resistant features and protecting the valued lens.
  • 【Compatible Note】This ND filter suits all 82mm lenses. Confirm your camera's lens thread size (usually beside a "ø" diameter symbol) before ordering. Additionally, an 86mm lens cap is required for this 82mm variable ND filter.

The last couple of products I have tried from K&F have been on an upwards trajectory for quality; and this variable ND filter carries that on. The packaging is good; and the storage box isn’t a plastic clamshell its stored in a faux leather box with a magnet clasp. It still takes up a lot of space in your bag, but it stands out from the crowd. The Filter itself has a gold ring on it emulating some more professional end filters; it screwed cleanly on and off a variety of lenses with an 82mm thread without sticking once. That gold thread is also nice and grippy which makes it easier to use. When it is screwed onto most of my lens however the markings for the ND filter end up on the bottom which is more awkward to work with than them being on the side or top (especially if you are using a tripod.) The ND range does have end stops so you can’t go outside it; but its only 20-30 degrees of movement and if you are setting exposure manually it would be easier to see anywhere other than the bottom for me.My test shoots showed a purple tinge from using the filter that was at its worst on the marked ND32 mine. Lots of ND filters do this (in my experience you need to spend 5x more than this costs to get rid of it) in the image and video with the tinge and it is easy to remove in lightroom and final cut.More importantly for a variable ND it didn’t add any moiré to images even in 8k video. Controlling the angle, it can move will help here as you won’t go out of bounds and see weird effects. It didn’t vignette at 15mm on my wide-angle lens. If you have wider and need to know the filter is about 9.5mm thick from the threads to the front of the gold ring. The threads about for about 3mm of that (they are much harder to measure accurately). On pain is when using the filter, you can’t use your lens cap as the filter doesn’t have any secondary filter threads for it to catch onto at the front. That aside this is a very good value variable ND filter.

I was absolutely blown away by the quality of this VND and purchased a second one for a different filter size. I do wish it came with a rotation pin, but it works well enough, no strange visual effects, amazing build quality

Haha.

I have a few filters from K & F, and I've been pleased with the performance for price point. To get the absolute best image quality for my photography, I use expensive solid ND filters, and I use step up rings to work with 82mm filters. But I picked up this variable ND to use with my budding interest in shooting video (ultimate sharpness is rarely a concern in video). I've always avoided variable NDs for the perceived drop in quality, but when shooting video having the adjustable ND strength really saves effort/time. This fits on my Sony 20mm lens which is my video workhorse currently. I'm not using step up rings, so I wonder if that deteriorates the corner image quality more than what I'm used to. As for the image quality, I think this filter is rather good. I'm seeing a bit more vignetteing and loss of sharpness in the corners, but it isn't extreme or something that doesn't clean up easily in editing. I'm not seeing any color shift with this filter, at any range. The design of the filter is pleasing. It has nice knurling around the rim to make it easy to put on/remove and to make adjustments of ND strength easy. It comes with a case, if you're not using a larger case for several filters. Overall, I think this is a great option for anyone short of a professional who demands the absolute best.

Variable ND filters are very hit and miss. Some are great, some are terrible, there is very little in between. These are on the great end of the spectrum. I didn't notice any color shift, X pattern across the shots, or vignetting. Keep in mind I used a 77mm lens stepped up to this 82mm filter. So the chance of vignettes are much lower. Now I didn't pixel peep or overly analyze the images. And I do video mostly not photography if that makes a difference to whoever reads this. But on high dynamic range situations and testing against bright light sources, this performed great for me. I also love how textured the frame is, it makes it very easy to screw on/off and operate the variable level. It's got a tiny bit of weight to it but that's because of the solid build quality and materials.I love the box it comes in. You feel like you've bought a professional product that the brand takes seriously. And I didn't know there was an included leather pouch. It houses the filter. Very nice and convenient for transporting the filter safely. There's a super soft material inside so the filter doesn't get scratched. There's a little extra room so I can keep the step up ring on my filter. And there's a ribbon pull tab on the side so you don't have to reach in to grab the filter or risk getting finger prints on it. You pull the tab and it lifts the filter up out of the pouch.I have 1 issue. It didn't count against the raring because I always review what's presented. I can't knock them for something that wasn't included unless it was advertised to be. But I really would've loved if this came with a cap! A filter cap so that it can live on your lens safely and you don't have to remove it every time you pack up. Putting on and taking off a filter is the most dangerous part. Not only are risking touching the glass elements but your really risking dropping it altogether. Out in the field, hands fatigued or freezing, rushing on set, it's very easy to drop a filter. So being able to leave it on and keep it protected when you want to would be a major plus.Overall this is an awesome filter and provides some great features against its more expensive competitors. I own a few K&F Concept pieces. Filters, a tripod, one of my camera bags and they haven't disappointed me yet.

I have several lens filters from K&F and they have all impressed me with their quality. This filter does the same. You can change the f stop 2-5 stops, which is nice. Yes, you can change the exposure of any photo by changing the shutter speed, aperture, or ISO, but you can do it on the fly with this filter. It has two rings. One to screw it onto the lens and the other to adjust the f-stop. You can see in the attached photos of my camera that in one, you can see the internal optics of my lens, but with a twist of the filter, you can no longer see through the lens. And the two photos of my dog are straight from my camera and are both shot at f/4, 1/500 sec, ISO 800, taken second apart, but I changed the exposure with a simple twist of the filter. And it comes with a very nice, premium storage case to keep it safe. This is going to be fun to play with.

This is an outstanding filter that every serious photographer should make a part of their collection. It gives you the flexibility to shoot under extreme lighting conditions without compromising your artistic choices, such as lens openings or longer shutter speeds, so you can keep the lens open wide to get the background separation you want, even in bright light or do a long exposure to smooth out water. The best thing about using K & F filters is that you always know you can trust them to give you the highest quality filters without doubting their specifications. Also, I suggest you get the larger 82mm size, even if most of your lenses are smaller than this because you can easily get a set of adapter rings to step down to cover your smaller lenses, but you can’t put smaller filters on larger lenses.

I have many filters by this company, and they are all fantastic. Variable NDs can be tricky, but this one seems to work fine. No color shift, no funky patterns with wide angle lenses. Goes on the lens without any trouble. It operates smoothly and doesn't feel like it grinds at all. Does not seem to have any negative effects on my images.

Super!
