Once setup correctly this thing is perfect for kids!My son wanted a 3D printer for his birthday and has been saving up for a long time. We saw the Kidoodle on YouTube while it was still a Kickstarter project and figured this would be the perfect printer for an 8 year old since it does not require a PC and mom and dad to print.Once setup correctly the printer works exactly as advertised. Kids can select from hundreds of included models and additional models can be downloaded and printed with ease. This is perfect for kids because they don’t require mom and dad to run software on a PC and occupy the PC for the duration of the print job. Most projects print in ~1 hour which is also good for an 8 year old because they don’t print 100 items per day. There is a bit of setup for each project (cleaning the printing tray and adding glue stick glue) but this is also fine for kids since they have to do some maintenance in order to get a good print. Teaches responsibility and doing the little things to get the desired result.Prints are very nice. They are better than what I would expect from a kids 3D printer. The printer is relatively small so this limits you to printing kids sized models, but again that’s fine because it keeps the cost of consumables low.The only issue we found was that the include filament has a print temperature and print speed of either 230C temperature and 200mm/s or 180C and 100mm/s. The machine defaults to 230C and 100mm/s which means we have to modify the setting in each print. Luckily Sunlu sells the larger 1KG spools that print at 220C and 100mm/s so once we use up the included filament we won’t have any issues and kids will not have to change the setting on each job.Not sure if I can change the default settings but have sent an email to the manufacturer to ask if this is possible. Will update the review once I find out. Will also test and add links to filament that works with machine default settings to help take the guess work out of it.Overall we are very happy with the machine and the it is a great toy for kids.Update 1:This filament is made by the same company who builds the Kidoodle3d and prints at 230C and 100mm/s so you don’t have to adjust the temperature or feed rate on each print.https://a.co/d/j8ojV7BThe temperature is hard coded in the model so if you are using Kidooslw slicer you could modify the models before saving them, but I find it easier to use a filament that matches the Kidoodle3d’s settings.
