I wish something like this was available when my little guys were learning to ride their first bike!It is now my grandson's turn at mastering this skill and this bar offers the ability to keep him guided down the sidewalk upright without the usual wipe-outs! I'm not even using any training wheels, just hanging on to this guide bar. from behind. It also gives me the ability to regulate his speed without having to hover alongside, all crouched down ready to grab him, which keeps him from roaring across the street into the path of a car. It's well built and is of solid construction. The chain guard on mine caused me to modify the installation a bit with some additional washers to bring it out far enough to clear the guard. (it wasn't a big deal)For the money, this is a good find.

This clever device is so much better than breaking your back trying to hold onto your kid's bike seat as they learn to balance on their bike. I've also seen a suggestion on a parent forum to wrap a towel under your kid's arms and assist them by holding them up that way. This bar is also far superior to that method. Especially since you can also assist them up hills by pushing from behind. The bar is a bit fiddly to get installed. I had a hard time getting the star shaped washers with the gears lined up with the handle itself. When I finally did get it installed the washer tabs did not engage with the backs of the chainstays the way they need to without creating excessive slack in the chain. So I've got it installed now but with a sloppy chain that I'm hoping doesn't fall off. I believe the fix for this would be to remove a link from the chain but I'm never happy when I have to dig out my chain breaking tool, and will put that off as long as possible.Because the handle comes in 3 pieces and snaps together with a push button spring fitting, there is a little slop in the handle itself when I wish it felt more solid, and I'm tempted to wrap it solid with duct tact or add some kind of a cylindrical shim to stiffen up the connection. Maybe I'll get used to it, but I am excited to have this training handle in my life.
