I'm really pleased with this kids microscope, which has been a hit with the young scientists in my care. It has a digital zoom up to 4x, and while I would prefer an optical zoom, the trade-off is that it makes it super easy to use and focus, even for little hands. I was initially repelled by the idea of bringing a screen outdoors, but it does make it much easier for for small groups of kids to gather around and see what's on display, compared to a traditional microscope. The white LED lights provide good illumination, and the overall design is sturdy and kid-friendly. My only real criticism is that the microscope comes with some unnecessary games and features that can be a bit distracting. In this case, I think simpler would have been better - the kids are happy to just explore and learn, and don't need a lot of bells and whistles to keep them engaged. Overall, this microscope is great way to encourage curiosity and exploration, and is perfect for small groups or classrooms.I've been testing out different microscopes and magnifiers for my forest school class. In the last photograph, you'll see them photographed together. This one is on-par with #5, even though it's smaller and has fewer features. The magnification is similar, except that the screen is smaller. It easily out-performs 1, 2, and 3 for magnification. 6 and 7 are better for optical zoom, rather than digital zoom, but not as good for groups. 9 is actually a monocular, but can be flipped around to be a microscope, which is cool, but the magnification is not as strong. 10 has the best magnification, but is not as field-friendly, or readily available for children to use independently because it relies on a connection to a phone. I like that this one can work without another device.I've also included photos of the microscope looking at a sparkle on a slice of wood, Abraham Lincoln on an American $5, a fern leaf, and a full stop at the end of a sentence. I'm not sure how to verify the magnification claim, but these should give you a good idea. The screen says it's at 4x magnification. I suppose it could probably get bigger if I plugged it in to a larger screen, which might be neat in a classroom setting.
