The Pure Mini is a transducer-only system. No battery, no onboard electronics, just the pure pickups. Don't be fooled by the sound of some competitors' "thin sounding" passive systems. The Pure Systems are definitely different. They sound full and rich and have sufficient output to drive most amps and PA systems directly, without a preamp! Advantages of the Pure Guitar System The special Pure surface transducers transmit a significant portion of the soundboard because they are not as close to the strings as an under-saddle pickup. Each of the 3 transducers is designed to pick up a specific string pair, but also "listens" to the adjacent area around the bridge. The Pure pickups are not under pressure and therefore do NOT sound percussive or harsh. The Pure System reproduces all strings nicely balanced, a known problem with under-saddle pickups. The Pure System sounds great just in passive mode! Unlike under-saddle pickups which passively can sound thin and trebley, the passive PURE system puts out a nicely balanced, warm, full range signal. Feedback How safe is the Pure System with feedback? Due to the Pure System's location on the bridge plate under the bridge, feedback resistance is comparable to under-saddle transducers. Technically, a pickup installed in or on the bridge is a lot less likely to feedback than one which is attached to the open sound board. The 1/8" thin sound board can act like a diaphragm and vibrate along with loud sound-signals from speaker cabinets. This is the kind of feedback you experience on an acoustic guitar. The thicker bridge area is a lot harder to be set into vibration from an outside source simply because of its mass. In our tests with both, steel string and classic guitars equipped with an under-saddle pickup plus the Pure System, we were able to achieve about the same gain-before-feedback with both systems.

I have played for 50 years and I have experience with many A/E pickups. The K&K Pure Mini has always been a great pickup but is now even better! Now you don't have to rely on the sound man sitting behind the sound board for volume adjustment when playing a gig or recording. That is a very nice improvement and well worth the small investment. However, I do strongly suggest letting a PROFESSIONAL install it especially if your guitar is a really nice, expensive one like a Martin or Taylor, etc. Besides the sound quality, the best feature is that this is a PASSIVE pickup so NO BATTERIES, NO HASSLE!

I've used almost every active and passive acoustic pickup system available over a 40 year period on dozens of guitars. K&K have figured it out. After the install, when I plugged my Martin 000 into a tube amp not made for acoustics, I was blown away. You have to be careful with the installation and follow the instructions if you do it yourself, but the results will not disappoint. From now on I will use nothing else.

This pickup is great. I love the volume control and it sounds great. However, the hole that was needed was pretty big so when I got to the "Go get a drill and drill into your guitar" section of the instructions I decided to take it to a shop to get it installed. They did a great job and I really like this system.

I installed a set of K&K Pure Western Minis in an Epiphone Dred 20 years or more ago. I was very impressed with that set which was before K&K had a volume control available. I just finished installing in a Martin X Model a new set of Pure Westerns with Volume Control. The K&K is taking the place on a Fishman UST setup with volume and tone control. Based on what I just heard in my living room, this new setup with the K&K is many miles better than the previous one. Booming bass, Stratocaster like highs and pounding melodic mids. I can't wait to play it out. And the bonus, , , , No More Battery, Yah Hoo!!

I used to have the non-volume knob Pure Mini installed on my old Martin guitar, and it was a great pickup. The addition of the volume knob on this version is a welcome addition. Sounds great, and I enjoy having the additional control. I don't have a great ear for sound, but with this pickup on my D-18, going through a pre-amp, I like what I hear, and that's what matters.

I’m a guitar luthier and install K&K pickups in all my instruments that require a pickup. It’s no-profile, easy to install and unbreakable in that there’s really nothing that can get beat up. Of course the sound is stellar; natural. As a maker of guitars, I want the natural sound of my instruments to be heard, and dressed up with effects as desired by the player. My personal instrument collection boasts this pickup as well, including my D28. For us percussive fingerstylists, it’s necessary to have a pickup like this installed, as it picks up the tap tones all around the body. EQ’d correctly, even the neck/headstock.

Beautiful sound, easy install. I work in a store that sells competitive products and I still suggest these. I installed in a Taylor GS Mini mahogany, and now I gig with it twice a week.

Easy to install. Watched a few YouTube vids 1st. Much better with the volume control than the K&K I have on another guitar without it. Great sound on my two Martin OM guitars.
