Item does not look worth the money, cheaply made and it sits higher than the stock airbox causing the intake and hood to touch..... yeah rattling noise. First order was missing part D on the manual that connects to the MAF so I returned it. Imagine the odds, the second one was missing part D as well so I spent another $10 to buy a hose to replace the missing part. Car sounds good and throaty at higher RPMs, nothing noticeable at lower RPM or at idle. Definitely too cheap looking to be $300+ with tax. Returned solely for the Rattle noise from being oversized and will purchase the DDMworks version instead.

Arrived on time. Very easy to install, approx 30 mins, with directions specific for my vehicle.I have an '07 base model mini R56.This item uses the existing bottom half of the original airbox, and leaves in place the air intake system from the front grill back to the airbox.It does add a nice 'growl' at higher RPM's, not much difference on the low end.The bad: Since the top of the original airbox has a connection to the top of the engine for stability, you lose this connection when you replace it with the K&N. This results in a shaking of airbox system, slight rattle is heard at times at idle and then i noted that due to this shaking, it started to rub on some parts that it rested on. i had to place some foam type weatherstripping between these areas and will check it in the near future. The K&N top part of the airbox that you receive is made of metal and has some weight to it, which is why i believe this happens. After placing the weatherstripping it seems to change the note of the 'growl'. Hard to explain, but noticeable.Also noted after the installation of the K&N system is that my shift points seemed to be lower in the RPM range when driving in 'sport' mode. The car does not hold the RPM's during accretion and shifts earlier then with original box which seems to rob you of speed.I will continue to look into the change in the shifting, and watch gas mileage and decide later if it will stay on the car or i will go back to the original airbox with the K&N drop in filter.

My MINI now has a low throaty rumble past 3k rpm. I couldn't help but laugh the first time I heard it. Installation took less than 2 hours, and would be quicker with the right tools. The clamps are the only tough things to take out and put in; a few times I had to use my house key to tighten and loose screws due to the tight fit. I'm surprised at how much 4 horsepower can do; though it's definitely not sink into your seats fast, but it's faster than I expected.

The K&N Typhoon Performance Intake Kit is easy to install, looks amazing, sounds great, improves economy, adds power, eliminates the high cost of replacement paper filters which for the Mini Cooper are roughly $40 each, and most importantly reduces the massive amount of waste that paper filters add to our land fills annually. This is a no-brainer for any Mini Cooper owner. Don't mess with other brands, use K&N.

Maybe I have a newer MINI. But it says 2011 on the car and sticker that came with the car. This kit does not fit. YMMV

Followed the instructions and had it installed with in a hour. The sound that this makes is great and could tell slight performance increase. I have a 2011 non turbo mini hardtop. Of course when buying any K&N kit like this the price is high. I knew what I was buying I got it more for show than function so price was ok with me.
