We ordered this futon for out-of-town guests and everyone tells us it's the most comfortable futon they've ever slept on. It looks great, it's very sturdy, and the thick mattress makes a huge difference! My parents loved it so much, they ordered one too!

We purchased this futon to replace our older smaller futon which we have outgrown. This Monterey Queen size is of the same mechanical design as our old futon so our familiarity with the design pushed us towards this purchase.Quality issues:Upon arriving we unpacked the frame and assembled it in it's entirety. Upon putting the mattress on the completed frame and setting the futon in it's upright position we quickly learned that the wood used in this newer design from Kodiak is of low quality. When sitting on the futon the primary length wise, front and back, wood support beams sag notably (1-2 inches). When you sit this sagging causes the futon to creak very very loudly and it feels as if the futon is going to break under your weight. You kind of hold your breath waiting for the whole thing to crack and fall to the ground. The legs push outward to the side as the support beams bend too as if it's about to do the splits. To be clear my wife is 110lbs and I am 220lbs. This wood sags and creaks significantly under my wife's weight alone much less mine, or ours together. If there were 3 of me sitting on this futon I would be very legitimately concerned that it would literally crack in two. Also, to be clear as stated earlier, I am highly familiar with this design and have taken our old futon apart and put it back together many times throughout the years. This was not a consequence of me putting it together incorrectly and/or not tightening bolts appropriately. It was the wood that gave, not the bolts. This was such a stark contrast to our old futon of the same design that we did some sit testing in both of them side by side. This is how we realized that the wood used in our old futon design was much stronger and stiffer than the wood used in this Kodiak design. Our old futon doesn't give at all when you sit nor does it make any sound. It feels solid and very comfortable. Having that experience of how this design is supposed to feel made this new Kodiak design's failings really stand out to us. Anyways, sitting in this new Kodiak design, due to the weakness of the wood frame, provokes anxiety and is uncomfortable to do due to this. It's like how a wood chair creaks really loud before it gives out from under you. And, if you move at all while sitting, that creaking comes right back as the wood can't handle the stress forces of you moving about on top of it. If you're watching a show while sitting on this prepare to sit very still else you will never hear anything but the creaking.Return Policy Issue:This is my fault for not reading their return policy more closely prior to purchase (I just saw eligible for returns within 30 days of purchase as was comfortable with that - my mistake) but fair warning for you, the potential buyer reading this review. Their return policy is not functional or reasonable. Let it be very clear, if you decide you do not like this futon and want to return it you MUST return it in it's original packaging (getting the futon mattress re-wrapped in the restrain plastic it's shipped in is literally impossible to do without a machine) AND you must pay the shipping cost. Their return location is in Miramar Florida so unless you live close to there it will be several hundred to thousands of dollars most likely to ship this back to them. The return policy also states they will not accept a return if the futon has been assembled. This means you must figure out if you want to keep the futon or not without assembling it/trying it and preferably without taking it out of it's original packaging. This policy begs the question - how would you ever know if you wanted to return it or not if you can't even assemble it and try it without voiding the return policy? It is a self defeating policy because of this. When arguing with them on the phone I got them to allow the the return provided I repackaged everything appropriately (which again, was not possible due to the mattress plastic wrap) but still would be responsible for shipping costs. I'm not going to pay hundreds of dollars out of my pocket to ship it back to them and cross my fingers that they'll accept the return and give me some fraction of that money back. I'm already out $630, not going to be out another $400 because Kodiak takes advantage of people who don't read the fine print. It should also be noted that, if you find yourself in a situation where you need to talk to the seller on the phone, they are apparently having 'server issues' and as a result their phone service is spotty, cuts out frequently, and is very quiet. When I spoke to them on the phone every 3rd/4th word was cut out because of the spottiness of their phone connection. This made it very difficult to understand them and I ultimately had to hang up because it was such an unproductive conversation due to this. So expect it to be exceptionally difficult to communicate with them.My lesson learned:Don't buy furniture online and if you must ensure they have a functional return policy. I will now be taking the support beams for this Kodiak futon to a custom wood furniture maker and asking them to recreate these support beams but in a much stronger wood. Hopefully that doesn't cost a fortune too but it is the only way I can think of at this point to make this futon usable in our household.

For the money, it's extremely solid, but it is very heavy. It's hard to turn it into a bed from sofa and vice versa.Took a long time to put together. Not difficult, per se, but lots of parts.

This futon is great! It looks sleek and nice, perfect for my office to have an extra place to sit and for extra guests to sleep. Assembly went well, took about an hour to do by myself. It is pretty comfortable. The only complaint I have is that there is a light odd smell to the mattress, but I’m hoping that will dissipate with time. Would definitely recommend this for someone looking for a versatile piece of furniture at a reasonable cost, or for a place of limited space.

I read a lot of reviews before deciding on this Kodiak queen frame and Grey suede queen 8 inch futon. My husband and I love this frame and futon which is similar to a mattress, the wood is very sturdy and the futon is comfortable. It took some time to put together, came with instructions and tools. It came clean and nicely packed. Thank you!

The futon came in 3 boxes, the parts were packed very securely. The assembly instructions, coupled with the on-line assembly tutorial, were very clear and easy to follow. It took me about 2 hours to put together, by myself. The assembled futon looks very nice, the frame is very solid & heavy; the cushion/mattress is thick (about 8") and comfortable. We had my grandchildren visit for a few days and they slept on it and liked it, however it takes 2 people to open (or close) from sofa to bed. As a sofa it is okay except that the back leans back a little too much, my wife is short and when she is sitting in it, with her back to the back of the cushion, her feet do not reach the floor and she's uncomfortable, she uses the throw pillows to put behind her back to make herself more comfortable on the sofa.

AMAZING, WELL MADE, and BEAUTIFUL!!! Honestly I don’t think I’ve ever been so impressed with a piece of furniture, other than my TV lift cabinet. This went in the family/media room and it is SO comfy!! Have already gotten comments on it! You can even put in in the “lounge” position (back a bit further reclined), perfect for watching movies! I love that it’s multifunctional, providing an extra bed, and feel it’s one of the best purchases we’ve made. Already got compliments on it! Well done, Kodiak!!!
