As a drummer, bassist and burgeoning songwriter, I have been on the lookout for a MIDI controller keyboard to add to my arsenal for in-house writing and recording. I don't need 88 weighted full-size keys; two octaves will do me just fine. The controller was plug-and-play, which is awesome; I didn't have to go hunting for drivers on some dank corner of the internet. The supplied USB cable was a bit short, but happily I had several extra on hand and I found one that works perfectly with my setup. I'm also happy to report that this keeb is happy working with whatever digital audio workstation (DAW) you have. It says it comes packages with Cubase, but I was able to get it working flawlessly with Reaper in no time at all, running stock VST ReaSynth. I ran a few other plugins onto it and I had zero issues. The keys are very smooth and responsive, and as I ran it through its paces, all the function knobs and presets appeared to work as they should. The housing is plastic and it's super light, so I would definitely recommend casing it up if you're taking it out of the house or studio; I'm also unsure of its durability for stage use. (But we'll probably test that out down the road.) But for the purpose I intend for it - home studio use - I'm totally happy and looking forward into diving deep into its capabilities.

I got this for my teenage son who loves to play the piano as well as the electric guitar and record and mix his own music. He was very excited to get this, and upon opening the box there was a code that you need to scan to download the software to run this when connected to your computer. When you scan the code, it did not work and then downloading the software was an extreme pain, it didn’t work right and I had to uninstall it two or three times and then manually install only portions of the software because it tried to install an extreme amount of different things. If the software was more user-friendly and easier to access and download, then I would’ve given it a higher rating, but since it was such a struggle to get it up and running, I haven’t gotten to test the machine itself nearly as much as I would like to.
