I ordered these Kuretake Zig Calligraphy Dual Tip Marker Pens 3 colors set, RosePink, 2mm, 5mm, Double Tip, for Art, Sketch, illustration, Calligraphy, Journal, Drawing, Made in Japan to add to my journaling and paper crafting supplies.I’ve been going back and brushing up in my calligraphy and lettering skills recently; there have been a lot of discussions on social media about the difference between the two, and it inspired me to refresh my skills. I’ve been working mostly with brush pens, so I was pleased to see this calligraphy set. This set of three Kuretake Zig markers have two different tips; each pen has a slim 2 mm and wide 5 mm tip. The tips are chiseled and firmer than the brush tips I’ve been using; this is great, because it helps me make very clean lines. The set I received is called Rose Pink, and it has three different colors; rose, baby pink, and antique burgundy. The antique burgundy color is fairly dark; it doesn’t bleed through a heavy parchment, but did leave ghost markings on printer paper, letter paper, a legal pad, and lightweight sketch paper. The rose is slightly less dark; it showed less on the other side of the pages. The baby pink is a lovely light pink; it didn’t show through any of the papers I tested. The pens came in a clear plastic package suitable for storage. The set includes a calligraphy ruler; it’s lightweight clear plastic, and has different angles and markings for uncial, gothic, and italic script at 2 and 5 mm. I’m very pleased with the quality of these pens; they’re a bit stiffer than the pens I’ve been working with, which slows me down just a bit. This is perfect for what I’m doing now, refreshing my calligraphy and lettering skills. The three colors blend nicely. I’m left handed and found these easy to use; I didn’t have any issues with smearing or smudging. Then again, I don’t have the left handed hook over style, my hand stays beneath the ink.At the current price ($11.99) I think this is a pretty good deal for three calligraphy pens. I’ve seen single pens sell for more. This is my first experience with Kuretake; I looked them up and discovered they are a legacy Japanese brand over 120 years old. Online reviews said their art supplies are easy for beginners to use, but their quality is suited to professionals. I would agree; I liked these pens a lot. The colors are vibrant, the ink flows easily, and I like the results I get with these pens.Be sure to replace caps tightly; the box also recommends the pens be stored horizontally, so they don’t dry out. Apparently if stored standing, one end tends to dry out quickly. The box also recommends not leaving these in direct sunlight or high temperatures; I’m storing them in their plastic case, zipped into my art tote and lying flat and horizontal.

I’m familiar with Kuretake so I was excited to have the opportunity to order something from this brand. Specifically, I have purchased the Kuretake #22 Fude brush pen and their Bitmoji brush pen so I already knew that this is a brand that makes high quality writing instruments. I do a lot of hand lettering with brush pens, but I am completely new to calligraphy so I was definitely trying to order from a brand I already trusted. When I think of calligraphy I think of black ink wells and needing a handful of different supplies to begin, but as a newbie I also didn’t want to spend a lot of money on multiple items. These Kuretake calligraphy pens were a great way to get my toes wet, but avoid the commitment of spending a lot of money on something I have never even tried before. I definitely recommend these to someone who is interested in trying calligraphy as it really was a great way to expose myself to this art form. I also love how I was able to get “rose pink” and didn’t have to go with black ink. I’m an aesthetics girly and these pens just turned out to be perfect for me. I really cannot say enough good things about them. They’re also an amazing value for your money because not only are you getting 3 pens in 3 different colors, but each pen is dual sided so you have a thick side and a thinner side to write with which is great. I’m used to using brush pens, so I’m really enjoying having the chisel tip, it definitely helps give that calligraphy look. As I previously stated, I am completely brand new to calligraphy so unfortunately I cannot compare these to other calligraphy pens on the market, but I was able to get the look I wanted using these pens (I keep calling them pens but they’re definitely more like markers). They have added a whole new dimension to my lettering art. I hope this review helps. Personally, I like these markers a lot, and I’m glad I ordered them.

I think the stiffness of the chisels could be great depending on your use and accuracy with a chisel. For me from what I'm used to, I think I expected a little more give so it might be a little more forgiving. That said I think that's more of an issue of learning curve and I'm not mad at it, but I think it's worth mentioning these chisels are VERY stiff. If you need a sharp/crisp line, these will definitely do that.I love the colors, teal and that kiwi shade are basically my exact jam, and I'm over the moon for the colors and saturation in person. The ink flows really well. The pale mint, is kind of barely perceptible. I feel like I knew that based on the listing so not too upset, but definitely kind of more of a use this to transfer color from the other pens for a gradient effect than a useful color on it's own (at least for me).Overall it's a really cute set for a reasonable price. I love Kuretake products and love these for the width of the chisel and practice, as I'm kind of bad with calligraphy in general and can absolutely use the practice. Really cute for journaling, scrapbooking, etc.
