This is undoubtedly the best strut unit that restores original ride quality. I think for some cars this is the same unit that came with the car when new. It is not a low end unit, and I have seen the originals last nearly 15 years and 250k miles before finally leaking and going flat.With all of that said, there is a lot more to a strut assembly. If you are looking at an old vehicle, you won't know until you take everything apart what condition the gaskets and other components are in. One thing for sure, they will be fairly worn, and may or may not be serviceable. If you need the car the next day, you may find yourself out of luck when, say, the strut swivel bearing at the top comes out in pieces and no ready replacement is available locally, even at the dealer. My recommendation would be, if you can get a quality full strut assembly (quick strut) by KYB or similar, that would be a better way to do it. However, notice that I said QUALITY. I would stay far away from cheap quick strut budget no-brand assemblies. They may be new, but they are substandard by design.Other thoughts:The sway bar link bolt that attaches to the strut is unlikely to come apart easily, unless you live in an area with no corrosion or the car isn't that old. Removing it without damage may prove impossible. You will probably to have to destroy it to remove it. I strongly recommend having two sway bar links on hand to save yourself from scrambling to have to find them locally in the middle of the job while the vehicle is in pieces. Even the highest quality links are very cheap and widely available.
