Ride Comfort may be important, but restoring a vehicle’s Ride Control; stability, stopping, lane change responsiveness and handling is critical. KYB Excel-G Shocks & Struts are designed for the most important performance purpose: Restoring the vehicle’s original capabilities. KYB is a world leading supplier of shocks and struts to new vehicle manufacturers and the Excel-G is made on the very same KYB OE assembly lines, uses the same OE quality components and is calibrated to restore original, designed performance, not change it. That has earned Excel-G the classification: OEA (Original Equipment for the Aftermarket). The KYB Excel-G is a nitrogen gas-charged, twin-tube design that includes every quality component that our global OEM products include.

Chose these KYB shocks to replace the originals in my '97 Cougar 30th Anniversary Edition, mostly because my experience with them in the past has been that KYB is a "sporty" shock.Being that my '97 Cougar came with the Sport option, I figured these would be a good replacement. Not. They are noticeably softer than the 16 year-old originals. When I replace all the bushings in the independent rear suspension, which will be in the next few months, I will be looking for either real original "sport" shocks, or some other aftermarket brand. These will go on the shelf to be used "just in case" ...

I've driven the car for about 500 miles after install.I've noticed these shocks dont like hot weather.. As the temp nears 100, rough pavement tends to greatly degrade performance and you feel every little pavement fault. I put this down to foaming, which is either cheap shock fluid or loss of gas, but when cool, seem to work well again even on the same roads.Note this is only happening on back shocks. The Monroes on the front with 25 KMiles seem fine.A good basic replacement, I suppose.
