About this item

  • Maximum performance upgrade with up to 40% more damping performance than standard shock absorbers
  • Perfect solution when you need to upgrade suspension performance on your Toyota truck
  • Truck monotube design outperforms all other standard shock absorbers
  • Zinc-coated, stainless steel piston ring provides a positive seal in the most extreme conditions
  • Rubber boot to protect the shaft and keep dirt and debris away from the seals
  • Fit type: Vehicle Specific

Tough conditions demand tough truck shocks. The large bore KYB MonoMax provides the additional stability that heavier, more powerful or high center of gravity vehicles demand. The KYB MonoMax is a heavy duty monotube shock absorber that provides the most handling, control and durability of any KYB shock; and it’s just for trucks. The MonoMax’s tough design automatically adjusts to driving conditions with fade-free performance. The KYB MonoMax has an outstanding reputation for vehicles that do real work, go off-road, tow a trailer or haul heavy loads. It uses a work-ready, zinc-coated steel piston ring and includes an off-road dust boot.

My 1990 Toyota pickup 4x4 with stock suspension and 32 inch tires first had Bilstein 4600 installed and noticed how stiff they were when driving on the road even feeling thru the steering wheel whenever I drove over small ledge between the bridge and freeway and they were even worse when driving over rough gravel trails where I had to stop and drive really slow since it caused the truck to shake uncontrollably. I switched to the KYB monomax since they were on my 4Runner and was immediately noticeable how much smoother they were over driving the same gravel road, they're still stiff shocks but how they handle bumps is smoother vs feeling like you hit a large pothole. Overall they are better than the Bilstein 4600 in ride quality and price but there are some differences in how they're built the bottom part of the shock welds and bushing design aren't very good compared to bilstein, they're a little taller than the Bilstein and the shaft is slightly larger on the KYB

Maybe too much damping initially. These really stiffen up the ride. I imagine they will "break in" and be perfect eventually. I only have a couple hundred miles on them so far. Mounted on a 1994 "Gen 2" Toyota 4Runner 4WD.

After 1000 miles these feel great. They were pretty stiff at first, but I also replaced my rear coil springs at the same time, so I'm sure that added to the feeling. I replaced both front and rear shocks with these KYBs. No complaints whatsoever. ('95 4Runner)

Installation was a snap on my 95' 4Runner SR5. Ride feels good on and off road. Good shock at a reasonable price.
