I spent more for this product in the hopes of avoiding the breakage I'd experienced with my last broadfork. When it arrived I was immediately impressed with the weight; this is a serious piece of equipment. After filing some burrs off the tines, I took it for a spin on a severely compacted portion of the garden. Not a sign of strain, just effective broadfork action. If I have a small complaint, it's that it comes as a bare metal product. For the high price point I'd like to see at least an enamel paint on the handles, but that's doable on your own. I'd also recommend investing in rubber grip tape. Another reviewer said this thing is built "like an excavator bucket." If that's what you need for your soil, then this is the product for you. Definitely recommend.

This bent badly way too easiy. I tried bending it back but the tine is out of line so it just gets caught and bends right back. I contacted the seller with a photo, they said they would send another. Its clear that its design flaw. the tines are round and nothing stopping them from bending. The others were bending when I continued to try and use it. They acknowledged there was a defect , Then they told me I had to pay to send it back. I had it for 2 weeks at that point. Its 5ft sharp 22# piece of metal. I had to rush by a meadowcreature to finish before the rains started. THEY WILL NOT BACK UP THEIR PRODUCT AFTER SEEING A PICTURE AND ACKNOWLEDGING ITS DEFECTIVE. Enough to send another but who wants another defective design? If this was the only one you ever used you may think its fine. After using a proper broadfork, its night and day. I will do a video showing the 2 function side by side since these people are trying to stick me with a broken fork. I will take this further. This was used in a 2ft deep bed with only small roots. No virgin ground, no rocks, roots bent this. ALL I WANT THEM TO DO IS PAY TO RETURN IT AS ITS DEFECTIVE OR REFUND ME IF THEY DONT WANT A BROKEN FORK BACK. TOTAL JUNK.I spoke w amazon today and they read me what the buyer wrote. That we were trying to cheat them and didnt want to send it back & didnt know how to use it. Sure people do that but i purchased a $275 meadowcreature because this thing bent so bad so easily & theres no way I was losing more time & running dow the return window. Sure the handle wont bend but the tines are all on different planes from such little use. They werent square to begin with as other buyers warned. I added a pic of the bed filled w compost and work casting that this bent on and the LAM in the meadowcreature box to send back. Amazon is going to pay the shipping. I dont think theyll be happy as weve spent a bunch of time trying to get this thing shipped for a reasonable amount and were looking at $75 UPS to send a ruined fork back. Boy this ones fun. I'll never buy from a 3rd party seller again. I let amzn know that today. Worst experience and time drain on amazon to date.

I had never used a broadfork before I bought this one. It takes the place of a gasoline tiller without the noise or the gasoline. It's easy to use, but here's a warning: It takes a lot of work to plow by hand. This thing provides great exercise. It cuts through soil much easier than a shovel and allows you to break up the ground down to 12 inches. I break the whole row and then do it again from another angle. Then I use a grub-hoe to remove the crabgrass and roots. The two tools work together remarkably well. Maybe not as fast as a gas tiller, but Ill bet it goes deeper. I have been VERY rough with my LAM broadfork and it shows no sign of wear or breakage. This thing is tough. If I ever manage to break it, I will gladly buy another.

I have been using a Bully Tools digging fork for some time now. It's the one with the red fiberglass handle, and nearly indestructible, specially chosen as the one least likely to bend or break. But I needed something that would go wider and deeper. I selected the LAM because of the bracing at the welds, which all the rest seem to be missing. After reading all the reviews on all the other broadforks, I came to the realization that the Achilles Heel on the broadfork is the 90 degree weld, or socket, or whatever, that connects the handles to the fork. These connections are always where the failures happen. Always.Imagine if you had a welder and a large inventory of high quality bar steel and you needed a broadfork. How would YOU build it? Well, that's just how LAM did it. On the one hand, there's nothing dainty or refined about this tool, the pictures say it all. On the other hand, it will never break. The joints are bronzed, but the whole thing is pretty much raw steel. It even comes with a warning to wipe it down and oil it before you put it away or it will rust.It was shipped expedited - ordered Monday, arrived Thursday. It's a heavy, bulky tool and comes in one piece, no assembly. It was wrapped like my Uncle Sid used to wrap our Christmas presents, so there was absolutely no way us kids could peek without entirely destroying the wrapping. It took me a half an hour with scissors and a knife to unwrap it.The tines are solid 9/16 bar steel. The handles are hollow 1 inch round bar and not capped at the top. Again, look at the pictures, they say it all.

I have never used a broadfork before, so I can’t make a fair comparison with other forks. I will say that this thing will be around for a long time. I have heavy clay soil so using this thing is a workout. Hopefully it will get easier to use as my soil improves. I don’t think the wooden handles on some other forks I looked at would have held to my soil. This thing isn’t pretty, but it is stout.
