Several reviews indicatedbthat sizes run small by 1 or 2 sizes.I bought this for my 5'10" 155lb 15yo son amd the large fit perfectly with a little room to spare.I'm also 5'10" but 230lbs and I could also fit into the large...but it was tight.(as expected)So I don't know what the other reviewers expected but this jacket seems to run true to size.The hood is NOT detachable.I was barely able to fit the jacket back into the included sack...will probably never do that again. I'll probably use the sack to hold dirty laundry on a camping trip or wet swimsuits.The sack material is very thin.Being Fall in N. CA during a drought - there hasn't really been any days to test it yet but I'm sure it can provide warmth in 40 or 50 degree mornings.

Great light weight coat! My son is normally a boys XL 14-16 and for this coat the Mens Medium fits perfect! He has a little space but not much...definitely not enough for a hoodie under. So make sure you size up at least 2 sizes!
