Versatile: The large Ball and Radius Turning Tool is designed to cut round shapes or curves in brass, aluminum, steel or plastic on your own small lathe. This lathe ball turning attachment is designed so that the center height is 3/8" from the bottom of the shank. The tool comes with a pre-ground HSS tool bit which may be easily sharpened or modified.
Durable: Frames and handle are machined from high strength aluminum alloy. The pivot pins are hardened and ground and rotate in custom bronze bearings. The tool is completely machined from solid metal stock, there are no stamped, cast or pressed parts. A pre-ground High Speed steel tool bit is included. Each lathe radius turning tool is manufactured in the USA and is carefully inspected and checked before shipment.
Tips: Balls in the ends of rods, shafts, or handles are easily turned with the tool. You can also make ball joints, governor weights, railing knobs, round contact points for tools, nose cones, and many other useful and decorative objects. The lathe radius turning tool is sized for lathes of 5" or greater swing, and the 1/2" shank size will fit most standard tool holders. The tool will cut convex curves up to 1 3/4" in diameter.

Product is good for small light parts. It is made from aluminum and will chatter a lot if not careful.

Solid construction and built with high quality parts. Works excellent on plastic, brass, and aluminum. I wouldn't plan to do much steel work but it is possible with the right prep and finesse. Due to the nature of this tool's design and the aluminum construction of the body it's not going to cut ultra high tolerance features with a perfect finish nor is it going to take very deep cuts. However, with some practice and patience it adds value capability to a lathe, cutting features that are otherwise impossible on a manual machine. For best results, rough out your shape with a turning or grooving tool and give your work a nice polish with a medium/fine sanding block for a well blended finish.

Made of weak aluminum and it flexes so much when being used that it causes issues.
