A small (somewhat) weak magnet hold the butt end of the Aligning rod. It will hold it fine when Hanging or pointed Up/Down (vertically) only. It will not hold/support the Rod horizontally. It's useless

Good concept. Great animation on YouTube. Actual in field use not so great. The magnets that hold the large end with the steel rod are too weak. I could not use it hands free which is a big disappointment. If my engine were out of the compartment then using two hands would be no big deal. The price is way too high for the tool to begin with and doubly so since it doesn’t work.

I bought this to assist myself in getting the March pulleys lined for my 509ci BBC. I could see by eye the crank pulley was going to need to be spaced out to match the power steering/alternator. I didn’t want to buy the expensive laser tool, because it’s expensive and figured this tool could get the job done. The idea of the tool is GREAT…however the tolerances of holed drilled in the plastic part which sits on the pulley and holds the metal pointer alignment part of the tool are off significantly… it has enough wiggle room to be nearly an entire rib off. Anyone who has fought belt alignment issues knows that if you are off a rib like that you’re gonna have massive issues with shredding or throwing the belt. The tool should have a much much tighter fit so that the pointer doesn’t have any wiggle and gives a more accurate alignment reading. Ultimately I had to purchase the laser tool. Disappointing to say the least.

Has a problem with bigger pulleys as kit gets wobbely, thought perfect for smaller pulleys.
