Pretty nice for the price. Especially suited for home machinists on a budget! These are a good, basic set of tools to hold carbide inserts to do almost anything you might need to do on your small, benchtop lathe. All the insert pockets and threads in the set I received were well machined and everything clamped down and fit well. No complaints!

I must give credit to this set. They are not great. But, they are good. Especially considering the cost.

As far as functionality goes these are good. Nice build quality....good value... easy to use. Simple operation and utility... due in part to all needed equipment to get these going besides the lathe.

This was the set I was looking for when I first got my lathe. The 12mm square shafts are the upper limits of my OXA QCTP and that helps with rigidity. I was happy to get a 16ER AG60 cutter holder in the 12mm size. I kept finding 10mm shafts with the 11ER thread cutters so it was nice to find the larger size cutters on the 12mm instead of commonly on the 16mm shafts. The carbide is decent quality. I try not to abuse my carbide and so far these have held up great. I'm sure I'll end up ordering some replacements. This set is helping me determine which cutters work best for a given situation. Very happy with this set so far.

If you have a lathe and no carbide tooling but want to try some without breaking the bank, this kit may be for you.It has a good complement of insert holders, but no left hand tools in this set. You have right hand tools and a straight in 1/2".A cutoff tool, a boring bar and internal and external threading insert holders. The more unusual part in this set is the larger sized external threading insert holder. Normally you get a smaller one, like the internal insert. This is a bonus as the smaller one can't do small TPI threads as it won't cut enough thread.Keep in mind that unlike HSS, you will break inserts, and then you will end up spending a lot of money replacing them. HSS still wins for general machining, slow speed, interupted cuts and robustness. You can sharpen HSS easily, but break and insert and all you can do is hope you have a spare. In this case, they have supplied exactly one spare for each insert holder even if they are the same insert. So once you have fitted each insert tool holder with its insert, you still have one spare for it. My picture shows what is left in the case after fitting all the inserts. These work as well as any I have used and are closer tolerance to some. Each insert fitted correctly with no unsupported carbide due to manufacturing defects like dents or tapers on the end.It is always hard to review these tools as they vary so much based on the insert quality, the machine, the machine setup/rigidity, the material being cut, the speed, the shape of the material being cut, the experience of the user etc.Having covered all that, these will do the job if you know what you are doing, don't exceed the practical limitations for carbide etc.Carbide needs more feet per second and higher load. If your lathe cannot supply that, these will not work out well for you.I have zero issue with this set other than I really don't like this style of cuttoff tool. At best I'd call it a grooving tool. They bend too easily under load and can't cut deep.

The quality seems good and the inserts fit well. On one of them I see a tiny bit of daylight underneath the insert, so I'll probably need to adjust the holder for a perfect fit. I'm glad that the holders each come in a decent plastic case to keep them safe from damage.

They work fine for hobby jobs. Low cost. Handy to have around. I still grind many of my bits from tool steel but these are useful at times.
