This is not an accurate test. Please do not waste your money and potentially create distress by purchasing these. I got false positive results on paint (confirmed to be negative by EPA certified risk assessors using XRF testing).

Can’t see the subtle graduations in color meant to indicate lead .

I was able to use right away. Simple instructions. I went through all of my ceramic coffee mugs and found lead in one. The swab immediately turned pink and was easy to read.

Every single swab turned "red", and I began to doubt that EVERY thing I tested had lead in it. I returned and got my $ back, thanks to Amazon's return policy.

I use this on ceramic food serving items that i purchase from second hand stores, thrift shops etc. so this ceramic lead test provides some peace of mind. So far so good, nothing in my kitchen or bbq pit has indicated any lead.

I inherited a variety of dinnerware and serving dishes and used these to check them all. So glad I did. When lead is detected the stick changes color quickly and it leaves no doubt. I’m so happy to know which ones are unsafe. But it made me a little sad that I won’t be able to use some very beautiful pieces. Oh well!

These swabs are a cheap and easy way to test for lead paint in an older house. Tested on some lead fishing weights to make sure they work (they do). Lucky for me no lead paint so far.

Tried on something I knew was lead free and got neg results. Tried on something from the 50s and it tested positive. Not too scientific but there u go

Reading some of the reviews about false positives being returned by limescale, I was a little worried, but decided to get this and do some testing myself. Unfortuantely I did find this to be the case. Using tap water (tap water around here is notoriously hard), just the act of putting the swabs into the water turned the water a positive color. But only when the water was from the hot tap. From the cold tap I didn't run into this issue. Also from the filtered water I haveI didn't run into this issue either. Nothing I tested (using the filtered water) turned out positive, but the fact that it has the possibility of positives from things that *aren't* lead doesn't exactly lead me to be confident in the results of this test. If I knew more about how these work I'd probably be less annoyed, but as a layperson using these without much prior knowledge I'm pretty disappointed.
