Soft and the strap is thick enough to be comfortable. My dog is 10 lbs so he's a little big and likes to stick his paws out. He doesn't know how to sit in it, but if he did he can easily only stick his head out. There's only this little clip/button to close the top, which I don't find that useful especially for dogs that may easily wiggle and try to get out. Overall, it's soft and still works especially for small dogs that will stay put.

I've got a little guy who likes to sit on my lap while I work. So I thought I would try this to help with squirming around. At first he wasn't sure what to make of it. But once he got used to it, he loves it now. If you are giving it as a gift, the packaging is not much more than nothing, so I would recommend re-boxing it. But I've bought a few of these in the past, and this is one of the nicer ones. I really like the finished inside too. It's got snap closures in two places (I assume depending on which way you want to face them, or maybe just to close them in more to prevent jumping out. It's also got a clip to hook to their collar for added security. My little guy is about 12 lbs and it's a perfect size for him because he likes cuddling. I do think it would accommodate a little bit bigger dog. However, 29 lbs may be the listed capacity, but I wouldn't think a 29 lb dog would fit.
