When you need personal light, this hands free light delivers features and practical usefulness unmatched by other portable lights. Invented and patented by ASF Lightware Solutions it features: extra wide & extra bright light from 6 LEDs, 2 clip-on Relaxation Filters, longer battery life, and an optional external Power Kit. Read Everything: It's a true reading light that works with all Kindles and other eReaders, printed books, PLUS newspapers, loose documents, maps and other items that can't support a clip-on light. Worn around the neck, it shines a cool & steady light for reading, quilting, knitting, all needlework & crafts, and searching a dark basement. Use it for writing journals, working, camping, and changing diapers at night. The extra bright light is helpful for those with aging eyes. Included are two 2 special Relaxation Filters that snap-on the light: BNR Orange for a softer, warmer light and to block blue light; BNR Red to block blue light, reduce ambient light for sensitive bed partners, or to help maintain night vision. A switch lets you light all 6 LEDS or just 3 LEDs. 4 alkaline AA batteries (not included) will run for 50 hours shining all 6 LEDs or 100 hours when using 3 LEDs. The longer battery runtime than other lights is especially valuable during a power outage and when traveling. This light is still bright when others have gone dim. No wonder reviewers called it the "most useful, versatile tool I've found in a while" and "by far the best personal reading light we have come across". Other critics rave as well. The Beam n Read family of Hands-Free Lights includes the BNR LED 3F with 3 LEDs and the BNR Orange & RED Relaxation Filters; BNR LED 6-3m with 6 LEDs and 3 clip-on Magnifiers; and the BNR USB/AC Power Kit.

Updated: June 7, 2017I'm writing a brief update, as I have experienced great customer service after having initial issues with this product. Bob from ASF Lightware Solutions reached out to me in response to my prior review. He made t extremely easy for me to receive replacements for BOTH lights I had purchased...even though one had been purchased over a year ago. I am SO happy to have these lights back for my bedtime reading routine AND I now know if there is an issue I can (take the time) to contact them for a positive resolution.....this light is the BEST EVER for bedtime reading....I can balance it in several positions (depending on my mood and position of the moment getting settled into bed) and do not have to deal with "blue" (or white!) light disrupting my sleep. I had used petzel/headlamp lights in the past (& in the interim, when the prior Beam n Read lights stopped working)...they simply do not fully lend themselves to the way I read in bed. (I rarely sit upright with the book held high in front of me - the only way a headlamp really works for this). Kudos to ASF Lightware....when I had an issue, they reached out, made it easy, stood behind their product 110%. I HIGHLY recommend this light and feel good purchasing from this company.I am SO disappointed with this product. It is the best nightime reading light out there ---- I have purchased two of these, I like it that much.HOWEVER - it is no good to me given how easyit breaks. I am extremely easy on products --- i.e., I never dropped it or tossed it around. The first one stopped working (batteries not the issue) --- so, I did purchase a second one, hoping it would hold up longer. Nope. The second one was so new: I hadn't even uncoiled the neck strap when it broke. I had it a few days - wwhen flipping/adjusting the cover, the underneath wire broke -- no light. So bummed. (Busy life - didn't have a chance to stop & write a review and check the dates for a return in time, am just now getting to this.) . I am extremely careful with blue light in the evenings before bed -- this light would be perfect if I wasn't shelling out $$ for a new one in ssuch a short time.

I'm one of those people who can't fall asleep unless I read something. After reading "Headstrong" and finding out about the health risks of melatonin suppression from exposure to blue light before/during bedtime, I stopped reading off of a screen, went back to books and invested in this light.I was pretty stoked to find this as it was one of the only red (non melatonin suppressing) light reading lights around. Just rest it on your chest and read away. Illuminates the book perfectly, unlike the headlamp I'd been using before. Really throws the beam just right-someone put some thought into this.Believe it or not, the neck thing is handy as well - leaves your hands free in case you have to walk around at night and puts the light right where you need it - down, so you can see where you're going. It also makes a great task light to rest on a table if you have to do something at night, but don't want to suppress your melatonin production.I also want to mention how excellent the customer service has been with this company. My original unit stopped working for some reason, and having given up hope on good customer service years ago, I didn't contact the company via the number printed on the unit they provide, but set the light aside and forgot about it. Many months later when I ran across the light again organizing a room, I posted a negative review here because I was so bummed it didn't work when I remembered how easy it makes it to read at night. The owner tracked me down, privately contacted me and sent me a new unit along with a postage paid envelope to return the old one so they could figure out what happened with it. You could tell he cared about putting out a quality a product and I felt bad about posting the review vs calling the number on the back of the light like I should have in the first place.Anyhow, this thing is great and the company stands behind it. It's worth more than what you're going to pay for it.

This thing is rather flimsily made. If you drop it, it will break. The hinge design is poor. The batteries that were supplied leaked, and gave me acid burns on my chest. So why am I giving it five stars?Because it is the ONLY book light for bed reading that is worth a damn. It's not even close. I've tried every other kind there is, and they all completely suck, except this one. Seriously, I've tried over a dozen different kinds, and every single one of them is garbage EXCEPT THIS ONE. The stalk kind only light up half the page, and if you move your book a millimeter they shine directly on your partner, or into your own eyes, and they are awkward to clip and hold. They fall off. They wear out. I hate them, hate them, hate them. I've tried the headband lights, which are uncomfortable, move around too much, light up the ceiling, and illuminate irregularly. I hate them too. This one sits on your chest and shines directly on your book, all of your book, and nothing but your book. The light stays put. Reading with the included red filter is very soothing at night, and cuts the blue light that interferes with your circadian rhythm.I'm serious: even with the flaws mentioned above, this is probably my favorite product in any category. I love this light. Going back to some other type of book light would be like going to a watch that didn't have a minute hand, or a car that only went ten miles per hour. It is not just the best book light, it is the ONLY book light worth a damn. But be sure to treat it gently, and get some quality batteries first thing instead of the terrible ones that come in the box. You will not be sorry. You WILL be sorry if you get any other kind of book light ever made.
