I bought this hood specifically because it claimed to be a screw-free tightening mechanism where the hoods alignment is supposed to be tightened by friction with the adaptor ring. I was totally down for that, and the cap system was so legit! Square hood brand’s caps are dainty and plasticky this one felt amazing! But after trying to tighten the hood, even if you tighten the adaptor all the way, the hood forever stays loose.. and even if the hood doesn’t exhibit any vignetting at any angle you put it, it still looks silly when it’s crooked and feels tacky spinning around like that. Removing my filter from the adaptor was an absolute pain as well as I was fighting the loose ring as well as it being over tightened when trying to get the hood to tighten. Absolute pain. Absolute dealbreaker.. and I have truly given up on square hoods as I won’t settle for a “tool-required” screw in hood because it doesn’t allow for easy removal for flash photography as these hoods cast a shadow when taking photos while wearing them. I still think round hoods are the best option and Haoge makes the best one (the JJC has a bit more obvious of branding.) just go with a round hood these square ones are too much of a hassle!

I tried this along with the much more expensive squarehood brand which is still made in China but costs more and is advertised as being something from Europe but thats a lie.. This one has an awesome metal hood cover. And it fits the filters I use like tiffen black pro mist etc. The squarehood did not and the finish was not matching the camera. This one does. YC onion just fix the flash!!!

So, I really wanted to like YC Onion Lens Hood Shade. The design behind it is solid: an adaptor ring that you screw onto your X100V's lens, then screw on a filter to make the camera waterproof and then screw on the circular-to-rectangle hood. Now, the hood will screw on misaligned, but that's where the adaptor ring's "secret sauce " comes into play: it's actually made up of two parts, so you can tighten the hood to it's correct position no mater how tightly (or loose) you place the adaptor on your camara. And that's where mine failed out of the box. The two parts of the adaptor ring are held together via 3 internal tiny special screws, that end in a long conical part that allows them to fit into a grove in the outer ring and let the whole thing rotate independently.Mine only had a single screw, so it's completely worthless, as it will fall apart just holding it.I'm on a trip, and when I get back it will be too late to return, so I'm out 50uds.So save yourself a good bit of money and look somewhere else.

I actually gone through two of these. The first one I got, I followed the instructions and everything was fine until I tried the hood to the adapter ring. No matter what I tried, the hood kept spinning around the adapter and didn’t feel like it was going to stay in place. It was only after I took it off the camera and reinstalled it like 5 times that I notice an O-ring was detached and I had no idea how to put it back or where.I sent it back for a replacement and the 2nd hood came through not long ago. I decided I give it another chance, and on the first try, I noticed the hood after screwing it on stayed in place with no issue.Very likely I had a bad fluke or bad unit, but glad I gave it another chance because this thing looks great on my camera! The design and color match and complements the camera. I have no image quality issues, and it doesn’t block the flash. The hood helps any accidental lens/filter smudges as it requires more effort to do.Getting the hood to align straight with the camera does take a few tries, key note is to TIGHTEN THE ADAPTER RING once you straighten the hood.I believe I got it on straight, or straight enough not to bother me.I do have slight concerns, wondering if that random O ring bit will come off at some point, but for now, I don’t plan on removing the hood any time soon, so I should be ok.

I purchased this lens hood in July and it worked perfectly for several months until I unscrewed it for the first time to clean my lens. Now, it won't reattach without the hood spinning and I cannot get it to stick back in place. I'm not sure what the issue is, but I'd like a replacement. Tried many times now to reattach it in different ways but it seems the hood is permanently spinning no matter what.

Hood works great, and looks great too. Only thing I dislike is the lens cap that came with mine fits a little loose and it’s fell out a couple of times when walking around with the camera. I’m trying to see if there is a solution to add just a little more friction to the sides of the cap (there is a rubber like material on each side, just needs to be a little thicker).
