Nice quality but they don't breath. I did a couple of difficult mountain treks with these in the snow. At every rest I had to take them off to alloy my pant legs to dry from sweat that accumulated. They keep the snow water and dirt out of your boots but if your going to hike hard be prepared to have wet pant legs. These were inexpensive and you get what you pay for.

As fall rolled around on me, I wound up caught in the rain after riding my motorcycle to work one day. (You can never trust those pesky weather-forecasters. They promised rain was going to stay away until a little later in the morning than it did, and of course I paid the price ;-) ) With wet pant legs flapping around in the wind that I encounter when riding, I was not very happy. In looking at possible solutions, some fellow riders tossed out the suggestion of looking for some Gaiters and soon enough I was placing an order for a pair of these Liberty Mountain Nylon Gaiters. The next time the opportunity to consider using these Gaiters rolled around, it was on a day with a relatively chilly morning temperature where those pesky weather forecasters had informed me and all of the folks in my area that it was going to warm up throughout the day. In that particular case, they were correct, it did warm up throughout the day, but it was chilly enough that I opted to use the Gaiters to keep the bottom of my pants legs tight around my ankles, eliminating the gap between my heavy duty sneakers and my pants legs. With the Gaiters on, the usual entry point for the cool air around my ankles was nearly completely eliminated. Definitely a world of difference, and worth every penny I spent on these.I rate these at 4 stars. I'd probably even go up to 4.5 stars if possible. Not quite perfect, but pretty nice. Why not perfect? I am not exactly a fan of the lace system that is/was used with these for clipping the Gaiters below the soles of the footwear. I wound up removing the laces which were too frustrating to try to tie and get tight enough to be useful and switched instead to short bungie straps that accomplish the same task. Those can be easily replaced if they take too much wear and tear from my riding (mostly from the stopping) much as the laces would have done, but they also clip much easier for me.

After my October Elk hunt in the snow I decided I needed taller boots or gaiters to keep the snow out of my boots. My hunting friend had some cheap gaiters he bought on clearance at Walmart. They helped but had no retention strap or hook to hold them down so they kept slipping up on his leg.I immediately came home and ordered the Liberty Mountain gaiters. Upon arrival I tried them on and they appeared well built. I took them on my November Elk hunt where we again we had snow up to 8". They worked perfectly keeping my feet and lower legs dry and my shoe laces weren't frozen into an ice ball. I spent twice as much as the Walmart specials (but still a reasonable amount) and these functioned like they should and are made of a heavier material which should last longer. On the trial run I removed the straps (laces) that would normally go around the bottom of my foot so I didn't have to deal with them getting frozen or wearing out. They would be simple and cheap to replace so that isn't a huge concern and if they do freeze up the gaiters would still be easy to remove. Instead I relied solely on the hook to hold them to my boot laces. The hook worked fine the whole weekend without coming undone.Con: The only downside I can see with these gaiters is if you were doing more stalking type of hunting since the nylon material can be noisy when they rub together. If that isn't a critical issue I don't think you can go wrong with these gaiters.

This is a very well made product. I don't have a lot of experience with gaiters, but this is how I would expect them to perform. First, the materials. The nylon used is of a very good quality, it feels quite durable. The elastic at the bottom and mid-calf is very heavy duty. when you put these on they snug up tight to the boot all around it and they snug up to the calf to keep the middle snug to your leg, yet not tight to where you can feel it through your pant leg. I wear a size 9 boot but these should work on bigger sizes as well (this is on a winter hiking boot, not a bulky winter boot with removable liners, i dont think this would fit around those). The zipper is not the best i have seen but it looks and feels more than durable enough. It zips smoothly and easily. I wore these around the house a bit when i first got them and i finally got to test them out this weekend. I did a 5 mile hike through the woods in about 8 inches of snow. My boots and feet stayed dry. Everything covered by the gaiter, including the laces, looked like i never left the house. Bone dry! They did not slip or move around in any way. I did not adjust them once and they were exactly as they were when i first put them on. I did make 2 modifications to this product before testing them out. First, I got the strap that goes under the boot where I wanted it and then i tied it off, cut off the excess string, melted the end and hand stitched the loose ends to the strap so the knots wouldn't come undone. I can then just put it on without having to re-tie this every time and i don't have to worry about it coming untied while hiking and then mess with wet, frozen strings. I also replaced the strings at the top of the gaiter with shoestrings. The string that it came with was kind of slick so i think it would come untied easily and if you have ever tried to tie a bow behind you knee you will see that it is a total pain. The shoestring i replaced it with is a material that you can tie a snug bow in that won't work loose and it is also long enough to wrap around to the front of your leg and tie it there. To replace this i just taped an end of the shoelace to an end of the factory string and pulled it through. Easy and effective. With these gaiters, I got zero snow or moisture down or in my boot and my socks and feet were completely dry and warm. For $19 these things are a very high value product. I am sure there are better gaiters out there, but these are great. They seem like they will last a long time and I can't think of any aspect of performance that was lacking. I highly recommend this product.
