Too small for 3 (almost 4) year old. All plastic. Haven't tried outside yet. Cost $47. Kind of flimsy... Couldn't find tonka excavator for Christmas present so bought this.

I originally thought it was made of metal, but the hard plastic construction is actually quite sturdy. After use in the sand box, it washed off without a problem.

First off, my son loved it!Overall quality if excellent. Easy to work the handle.There is room for improvement:1. The grey rims on the weels. These do not sit tightly enough, coming off too easily and can get lost if not careful.FIX IT: two dots of Crazy Glue applied at the edges.2. Weight. The toy is way too light to feel real! I understand it cuts down the cost of plastic and shipping. However, as a result one has to hold the base down to the floor while working the boom with the other hand.FIX IT: glue up some weights to the underside. There are rectangluar sections where one can fit some metal weights.3. Plastic Tires. I wish the tires were more rubber-like. It would provide traction on the hardwood or other smooth floor.

This is a bit smaller than the other Bruder toys we have bought, but it is still made of the same high quality plastics and has great detail. Worth the money and durable to boot.

This is our third Bruder toy for our two year old. All bruder toys we have bought for him advertise 3+ but so far he is having a blast with all of them.This one is his newest addition and he loves it. He is able to figure out the digging action. He is pretty rough on these toys and they hold up well. This one seems a bit weaker than other but still a solid toy. He sits on it, throws it (which he does get in trouble for) and it hasn't broken yet. Very fun for him, and even me, his daddy.

The Germans make a good product. My grandsons take this unit out as soon as they arrive. Well worth the relatively high price. Lots of details.
