I am building a bar on a budget and have been buying these dmx decoders from different brands. Five years ago we built our first bar and i got rhis brand. This year as i save some covid money we do some work. So i have been consistent. I am making all the lights 12 v led. Either bulbs or strips. Like converting the chandeliers so all will be on a dmx light board. On a side note is Awesume. The bulbs make no heat. However over time i get anoyed by the narrow light band leds make in general.Anyway. Some dmx decoders did not work well. Or were slow. None have been crap. Or terible. Of any brand. However one was very slow. So frustrated i looked for the brand i used five years ago. It was this brand. However other brands may have worked as well. But. They lasted five years. And i am re using was hem for the new place. My biggest advice. Over power everytime with your 12v drivers. Their is not much differnce in price.

For the price of the decoder, I assumed there would be some dimming/mixing issues. I was flat wrong. The decoder worked well. I am using the XLR side to communicate with my board. The empty XLR connectors were nice, but didnt use them.

The Tomtop Decoder does operate OK and can provide DMX control of RGB LED strip lamps. One can also achieve some different colors by adjusting the relative brightness of the Red, Green and Blue LEDs with this device. BUT the range of brightness control of the Tomtop decoder is quite limited which makes many color mixes difficult or impossible to obtain. For the first 20% of the range of DMX codes sent to this decoder there is no LED current output. Then the LEDs will start to brighten but when 60% of the control range is reached the LEDs will get no brighter. On a higher quality DMX decoder, the LEDs start to brighten at about 2 to 4% of the control range and continue to increase in brightness up to 96 to 98% of the control range thus allowing precise control of the color mix.

We bought this to replace an IR control unit for an RGB strip behind the cross at my church. We can now control the background color of the cross with the DMX board, and select WAY more colors than was possible with the simple IR remote that only had about 16 different colors to choose from.Very nice product IMHO - and exactly what I was looking for.

If you're looking for a product with clear to follow instructions and an intuitive hookup, look elsewhere. This product has a "COM" terminal (Common annode for those who know about LEDs) and their instructions say to not use the COM terminal. The instruction manual has many misspellings and hard to follow grammar. There is no indication on the DIP switches on which direction is ON.However, once I got the hookup correct, the test functions were very nice. I haven't hooked up to a DMX controller yet but once I get back to my lighting console I fully plan on it.All in all, this seems to be a decent DMX to LED converter/decoder, but just don't depend on the instruction manual.

This is exactly what I needed. I used it with a DMX lighting system that uses the XLR connections to chain link the signals together. I wired up the power supply and LED RGB rope lights I bought separately, then added these to my lighting setup and they worked perfectly. I didn't have to assemble my own connections like the other decoders would have needed, so they saved me time and are fully enclosed and mountable already. Worth the extra money to me. They performed perfectly and have immediate response to DMX signal changes.
