I have an antique sewing machine Singer model 404 that did not come with the free-motion foot. This is the foot that allows you to do darning, appliqué embroidery, quilting, etc.This foot fits my machine perfectly. The foot attaches to the ankle, and the long shank extends toward the front of the machine over the needle nut. When the needle goes up, the long shank then goes up, which raises the round foot, allowing the fabric to move. Then when the needle goes down, the shank goes down which presses down on the fabric so that the stitch doesn't slip. See photos.Very happy with my purchase

I had a small hole in the thighs of my jeans, and I wanted to darn it with my machine. This small attachment made it so that I could move the jeans around freely, without any issue. Highly recommend!

While it functions, the metal and plating is cheap. The chrome flaked off the liftingarm almost immediately. Then, while stitching it was showering my craft with metal glitter. After I finished my project I noticed the metal had been carving a groove on the screwpost of my machine, ruining it. Dont buy! Get a genuine Singer foot. The edges Singer Foot will be rounded, not jagged, and the chrome plating will protect your investment. One Star.
