I think this mason line string is pretty good. This braided style doesn't seem to unravel so much when I cut it compared to the old twisted style which I was always having to tie off or fuse on the cuts. The line itself seems good quality and I haven't had any issues with breakage. The orange color is highly visible, maybe a bit better than yellow in my personal opinion. The line is easy to use and the reel does work, however the reel doesn't work quite as well as I had hoped. For me personally, using the reel itself isn't any faster and doesn't produce any better results than just hand winding the string back onto the stake, which is what I've always done.

Very useful line that will withstand several repeat chores. The cord itself is a bit stretchy so you can make it taught to mark your lines with no sag. The bright orange color is nice, it will stand out with excellent visibility. The spool handle the cord is wrapped on has a notch to hold the cord that prevents unwanted unraveling, and comes with a slot to cut the cord too. You might prefer a razor for that job, over time and repeated use it could become dull.Another addition to my tool shelf that will make itself useful time after time.

The reel is good. Not too big but will reel up line fine. Easy to disassemble for adding new line if needed. I don't expect to since this will last a very long time for my use. Line is strong as it should be. Easy to see color. This is a good product and functions fine for its intended use. I can recommend it.

This is a strong line, color makes it very easy to see. It has more length than the big box stores for less money. In other words, you are getting better quality, more length for less price. Great value.I've had other lesser than this that lasted me a long time, i believe this material will last for a very long time. It's self explanatory, hook and stretch it, and the swivel system will lock the line in place.

This #18 mason string is the typical weight (size) of standard line used in many things. The color - florescent orange - is also one of the more typical colors. The length 540 ft is standard. The strength of the line is also about normal. So everything about the line is normal (or average) for this kind of line. So now, about the winder/unwinder. I've seen these for years and, quite frankly, I've not found a good one yet. This is no different. It will unwind and wind back up the first few times you use it. Unfortunately, if any dust, grass, dirt, etc gets I to the turning part it will keep it from turning/unwinding. Because this section also is used to wind the line up, it will fail as well.Does it work for what its made for? The line does, the winder, not so much. At this price point (~$12) I feel this is to high for an average line and holder. I keep looking for a metal holder with sealed bearings, maybe one day one will be made.Overall, I feel that this item is just average and a bit overpriced.Hope this helps!

Very good mason's line. It's strong, won't sag if pulled extremely taut. I didn't test breaking-strength, but I put at least 40 pounds of tension into this braided line. I presume I could put 60 pounds of tension into this line without risking a line break. Braided mason line is stronger than twisted line. And because this line is nylon, it's waterproof too.The yellow-plastic spool is convenient for dispensing the line, but not as convenient for retrieving the line. So far, to my knowledge, no firm has invented a spool of mason line that winds up quickly, or for that matter, evenly, without tremendous effort. In this regard, this mason's line is typical of most.

I'll be using this string for a variety of projects, but I most recently used for a landscaping project. The sting itself seems quite durable and tough enough for my purposes. It also didn't twist and snag. I like the bright orange color, which makes it easy to pick out from a distance.I really appreciate the winding mechanism, which does actually work (I've had several that were disappointing). It makes for a much neater job and for easy storage after I'm done. Good value for the price!

For many years I have tried to re-wind marking string lines onto the cardboard tube it came on to store the string for later use. It always ends up a mess. The line is not neat, and it continually falls off the ends, resulting in tangles. The string on this reel is pretty typical of this type of line, so there is not much to say about the string itself. It is basic, good string to use for laying out lines for projects. The description claims that their line doesn't unravel, which is yet to be proven. Every line I have ever used unravels to some degree. Only time and use will tell.I basically got this for the reel/spool. The spool is made of cheap plastic, but that in itself is not a bad thing. I would not leave this sitting in the sun for long periods fearing it would get brittle and break easily. However, if you take care of it, it should last for years.I was unsure if this reel would actually have a winding mechanism based on the description. I am happy to report it does have a winding mechanism. You hold the handle with one hand, and wind with the protruding tab on the other end with your other hand. Being made of plastic, it will wear over time, but again, should last for years if careful. You also have to remember this is only $12 as well. After all, you do get what you pay for.I will try to remember to update this review if anything changes.
