What a tremendously smart idea. Who hasn't seen a stripped out drain plug and wondered what to do. Or who hasn't wondered what would happen if you were dirt bike riding and you bashed your drain plug. This self tapping plug really solves the issue because it will self tap (or re-tap) the threads to the plug, but then it has an inner allen-keyed plug that you remove to drain the oil. So not only do you get to repair and replace the bad drain plug, but you never have to use those threads again. If you bash your engine case and the plug is gone, you can JB weld around this threads of this thing and you'll still be able to remove the inner plug. It's a great thing to pack in my kit for an upcoming 650 mile off-road trip.

Awesome product. This is a very well made piece. It repaired my stripped out drain plug on my 2013 Chevrolet Cruze 1.8L engine. I put some grease on the threads and very carefully ran it in a little at a time, taking it out every few turns to remove any aluminum it cut and to apply more grease to catch more chips. I had previously installed a Dorman oversized plug, but it kept leaking because of the hard plastic gasket they supply. Also, that one, you had to remove the whole thing every time, which I felt would eventually fail. With the inset o-ring that this uses, it seals perfectly. I have not gotten one drop leaking out so far in the past two weeks. Super happy with this purchase. I would highly recommend.

This product is VERY nicely machined. It appears to be made of high grade steel. The copper washers are too small to fit the inner bolt (plug). The rubber washer is ok. There is no extra o-ring for the inner plug. Not sure the copper washers are even necessary.
