About this item

  • M.2 Form Factor: M.2 (formerly NGFF, or Next Generation Form Factor) is the current standard for small and high-speed SSDs.
  • NVMe Protocol: NVMe SSDs use the PCIe interface for high-speed data transfer and are typically M-keyed, requiring multiple PCIe lanes (usually x4) for optimal performance. NVMe SSDs are known for their high read/write speeds.
  • Mini PCIe (mPCIe): This is a compact version of the standard PCIe interface used in older laptops and embedded systems. It provides limited PCIe lanes (typically just one lane, x1) and is much slower compared to modern PCIe interfaces.
  • Functionality: This adapter allows an M.2 NVMe SSD to be physically and electrically connected to a Mini PCIe slot.
  • Micro SATA Cables PN #M2-1432-ADPT

My EVGA z87 Stinger is a little too old to have a M.2 slot, but has an empty mPCIe slot. There are a few mPCIe drives on the market, but they're pricey and/or slow compared to modern M.2 NVMe drives.By adding this adapter and a BIOS mod with a NVMe driver, I was finally able to ditch the SATA connector and downsize my media center PC into a smaller case. The mPCIe side of this adapter can be snapped at the perforation to install it in the half-length slot. The ribbon cable can be (carefully) folded to route around corners and works fine.I'm very happy with this adapter!

It's definitely worked for adding a cheap used nvme secondary into an older machine. Depending on your BIOS it may or may not be able to actually boot from the drive as a system drive. This is not up to the adapter! Drive does show up and work properly in either case, remember you're limited to PCIE 1x1 because of the interface!

Works as described in my Asus Chromebox Cn60 which I use as a low energy network server. If I had one suggestion, it would be to include some addition ribbon cables of different sizes. The included ribbon is quite long and somewhat awkward in a small device housing.

It didn't work in my full length mPCIe slot with msata support then I switched it to half length PCIe slot and it worked. My half length WIFI/BT worked in the full length slot so all is well.

It works, don't expect full NVMe speeds tho.

Installed in my Thinkpad x201t, fits just above the hard drive.Installed a Kingston NV1 drive, was seen immediately by Windows no problem.

Bought this for my hp envy 15 2012 which has a pci express slot for hp wireless audio which is now outdated. Doesn't work. I'll try on a laptop which has a pci express which is keyed for msata and see if it works. If it doesn't then rating will remain.Update 29th Sept 2020Definitely does not work. I tried the adapter with a msata port and still not recognized at all. I now have to explore selling the nvme or buying a laptop that supports it. Do not buy

Didn't work at first. I had to flip a jumper on my motherboard reguarding power supply to the mini PCI-E slot. So if this doesn't work in your system, it may not be the adapter's fault. See attached picture of my motherboard manual. This allowed me to attach a M.2 NVME SSD to one of the mini PCI-E slots on an older mini-ITX motherboard. Of course this limits the bandwidth of the NVME from X4 to X1, but it's much faster than a mechanical HDD. I already had the NVME drive, all of my SATA ports were used up, and no more space to mount another 2.5" drive. I was able to use one of the holes on the back of the PCB where the NVME drive mounts, and bolted it through one of the ventilation slots on the case.

I used the the adapter to attach a m.2 sata ssd to a msata slot, and it worked.
