I’m giving five stars for the initial inspections , time will tell how well they cut and hold up but so far so good. These are generally not that useful as far as the hex because usually the holders are a little loose in the first place, but if you got a good 1/4 inch hex bit holder. They should work quite well and of course in standard drill Chuck they work well as far as I can tell. But if after some good use , my viewpoint changes I’ll come back and report but so far so good.

One of the main issues I've always encountered with drill bits meant for metal are that they snap. These stubby drill bits have been a blessing. I'm able to place more pressure on the drill when going through hardened steel without the worry of the bits snapping. So far they have held up better then my other bits and would definitely recommend.

The angle on the cutting edges is very shallow and they are not very sharp, which slows down the process of drilling. A couple extra strikes with a center punch is usually enough to keep the bit centered while it gets started. The M35 cobalt alloy is extremely hard. With patience, coolant, and light pressure, it will eventually drill through anything you'd find on a car. I used it to drill out some old high-strength bolts that had corroded. I lined up the bit to drill down the edge of the screw so it would come loose when squeezed and turned with pliers. The screw was 6mm in diameter (about 1/4"), so I used the smallest bit from this set. It was easy to control as it drilled a hole straight down the edge of the screw, about 1-1/8" deep. I have since tried drilling other materials as well, including cast iron, stainless steel, and aircraft aluminum. The bits have not dulled appreciably and continue to drill reliably.

I work on a lot of cars, trucks doing restorations and building or servicing street-rods in my shop. I was recently given the opportunity to review this product. If I had a dollar for every time I needed a short drill-bit, well, I’d be pretty well off. You know, those times when you have to drill out a broken exhaust manifold bot or stud - yeah, they’re never easy are they? Well combined these M35 (Cobalt) stubby bits with your air or electric ratchet and suddenly that job just got a whole lot easier. I am SO glad that these have 1/4 inch hex drive!!!!They’re on sale right now, so you better grab a set before they’re all gone! Perfect gift for a fellow mechanic / technician too! These have found a special place in my tool box!I keep up with my reviews and will revisit this one should the need arise.I give these M35 Stubbies my Big-Foot “Stomp” of approval and 5 stars!

I needed a set of cobalt drill bits for when I have to occasionally make a hole on a soft metal or iron piece of PVC/acrylic. My use case is for small size bits which I need occasionally during my woodworking projects. I need to make either a through hole or a small hole for tapping. These work well for me. The hex shanks are nice - this way they won't slip in the power drill driver. The bits are sharp and each bit is clearly marked on the hex shank. They come in a handy small carry case with each bit in its own compartment. I tried it quickly on a few items and they drilled without much effort. On the iron test piece, I put a couple of drops of oil. For the aluminum, they went through like butter.

This review is for the FiLwW M35 Cobalt Stubby Drill Bit Set, 3/32"-1/8"-3/16"-1/4"-5/16" 5PCS Carbide Drill Bits with 1/4" Hex Shank for Stainless Steel, Cast Iron, Aluminum and Other Hard MetalsM35 Cobalt Stubby Drill Bit Set, 3/32"-1/8"-3/16"-1/4"-5/16" 5PCS Carbide Drill Bits with 1/4" Hex ShankThis is a decent set of drills for metal or wood. Good assortment of basic sizes. Too bad they advertise these as 'Carbide Drill Bits' when they are actually only High-Speed Steel and cobalt alloy. HSS-cobalt alloy is not the same as Tungsten Carbide. The carbide is much harder and can only be sharpened by a diamond file or wheel. HSS can be sharpened on a regular grinding wheel. And yes, you can sharpen drills by hand on a shop grinder. I do it all the time on my Porter Cable 8" grinder. I have done this for years. Even if you break a drill and pieces fly off you can still sharpen it if there is enough flute left!I definitely recommend the FiLwW M35 Stubby Drill Bit Set from Amazon...

These stubby cobalt drill bits are great if you need power in a compact size. I used them on stainless steel and they held up better than expected—cut clean, no walking thanks to the 135° tip, and didn’t overheat as fast as some others I’ve tried. The short length helps a lot when working in cramped spots, and the 1/4" hex shank is perfect for quick swaps with an impact driver. The case they come in is decent too—keeps things organized.Solid pick if you’re dealing with hard metals or need bits that won’t flex or snap under pressure.
