This probe works as described and at least for my usage, this 3 wire version is preferred. The data sheet (such as it is) could be clearer as far as diameter of the object vs. stable detection vs. distance.If you're not familiar with these probes, you supply 10-30 VDC to it, and it outputs that voltage when it does NOT detect a metal object within 2mm of the probe. A nice unexpected feature is the LED in the body of the probe which is red when powered and nothing in proximity.
