These are much better than the thin rubber base alternatives for helping young (Tball) players learn...especially when you don't have an actual ball field to practice on. Sturdy enough for kids with cleats.

We coach our son's coach pitch team that consists of 13 boys 6-8 years old. We bought at the very beginning of the season and they are holding up with countless base running and fielding practices. We are now 6 weeks into the season and we have zero tears or rips which is a huge plus! We did lose the stakes to one of the bases. However, we live in south texas on the coast and it is insanely windy and the base without the stakes still stays fairly well in place without them. We are impressed with the quality and hope they stay in this condition for the remainder of the season! They have taken a beating from these boys. I can not comment on how well they would do with sliding because our age division does not allow sliding.

I had a need for bases as the team I coach often practices in an open field. I chose these largely on the reviews of others and I'm glad I did.First off, I bought the smaller size (14") for $30 and they are plenty big enough for practice purposes and the larger size would not be justified based on the cost difference.I consider these practice bases, which is why I needed them. By that I mean they are not made out of the firm rubber that game bases are which can be left outside all the time. So far, with normal play they have held up well for us. But I do see that if I left one of my ADD kids alone with one (they can't not step on them) how they could eventually tear them up with them cleats.Sure you could use those cheap flat vinyl bases (and I have) but they are usually too small and don't allow the player to feel themselves touching the base. They stake in the ground fairly well with the triangle-head stakes. You do have to unbuckle the straps that go underneath the bases to be able to attach the stakes. I just leave mine attached so that if I was going to not stake them I can just fold the stakes underneath the base but still be attached. If I was going to use them in a gym I would take remove the stakes. I store my bases in the box they came in and I keep a hammer in the box as well so I never have trouble getting the stakes down. Having the triangle shaped head also makes it easier to remove the stakes from the ground if are in a place where that might be an issue. Also, don't forget that the set does not come with a home plate!

I purchased this set as a replacement for the flat, brick red bases our little league issued us for team practices. The vinyl outer shell makes them easy to clean-up. There is enough padding in them to give good haptic feedback to the kids when hitting the bases and they are fairly simple to pin down and pull up (depending on the ground you are on, of course). Most of the stakes have a slight gap in the eyelet that the bottom straps can be slide through which makes it easy to attach/detach the stakes. However, 2 of our pins didn't have enough clearance to let the strap slide through, and without any tools to open it up more, we had to unstrap 2 straps to insert the stakes. That was a pain! The strap is a good quality nylon it seems, but the buckles are made of thin, easily bendable metal. It was a chore unbuckling and re-buckling the straps.

My life partner and I used this set of bases in a creative manner. Our youngest daughter is an enormous baseball fan so, to celebrate her love of the game, we used one of the bases as a sort of frame and affixed a recent professionally taken photo of us to it. She lovingly hung the base over her bead so we can look over her as she sleeps. Just thinking of how handsome my partner looks and how happy we made our special needs child brings a tear to my eye and makes this one of my best purchases ever!

Needed these for a tournament and, thankfully, Amazon Prime got these to us in a timely manner. Figured these would be junk, but would get the job done...imagine my surprise when we got them (bought four sets), these are quite good, and worked perfectly.

My husband coaches t-ball, I bought these to replace the vinyl throw down bases we bought last season. They have worked out great so far. I'm hoping they last for at few seasons.
