bought this to add a third seat to a long old Town Canoe. I mounted it to the Gunwales with some long stainless bolts with spacers to have it a little lower to avoid a high center of gravity. The construction seems adequate it is made of solid wood the webbing is stapled to the wood, on some higher end products it may be attached differently or more securely. I have used it and it seems to serve its purpose so far only time will tell about the longevity of the staples.

Out of the box I immediately noticed a little problem with the QC on these seats. I'm assuming the webbing is installed by hand so the guy doing the work must have been having a bad day. Two of the adjacent strips follow the same path instead of alternating/weaving as they should (see attached photos). It's not a big deal and purely cosmetic. It wasn't worth sending them back and waiting another few days so I pressed ahead with the install.Also....I figured these seats were pretty much a "standard" width. Well, I'm not guessing there is no standard. The depth (front to back) on these is 9-1/4" which turned out to be about 1/4" less than my old seats. This meant I had to modify the mounting bracket a bit with some new holes. Not a big deal with my setup but it could be a real pain depending on how these mount in your boat. Measure twice, cut once.Overall, these are a nice upgrade/replacement to the nearly 20yr old seats that were cracked and falling apart. Now my canoe can finally get back on the water.

Mad River replacement canoe seats are the best on the market. The webbed seat is the most comfortable on the market. This one is woven extra tight and dense making it firmer and more durable than anything else I could find on the market. Other seats looked as if they would sag after a little use but not these..

I ordered this seat with the understanding that it was manufactured by MAD RIVER as listed online. The actual manufacturer is HARMONY. Had I known this I would has chosen a different seat. The white ash frame seems sturdy enough and does fit my MAD RIVER canoe after trimming. The webbing however is a great disappointment. The material seems very light weight and is prone to excessive stretching. Each webbing strips is attached to the underside of the frame by 3 small (1/8th") staples. Some of the staples are within 1/16th of an inch from the edge of the webbing. I suspect that the webbing will tear from the frame in a short amount of time. This is a prime example why it is worth paying a few dollars more by going to a brick and mortar store to inspect the item being purchased, rather than relying on a one dimensional photo online.

I have an old Mad River canoe; previously replaced one of the seats with the "caned" seat version. You just cut the side pieces to the appropriate width using the old seat as a template. This seat should have worked fine, but the width between the pieces of wood does not exactly match the old seat, so the drilled holes will not be in the center of the wood pieces. We probably will be able to make it work, but the holes might be near the edge of the wood.

This is a well made canoe seat. After cutting it to width, it installed easily. Looks and feels great. I think it's going to be more comfortable than my old cane seat.
