Testing magnesium in your groundwater & drinking water has never been easier! Our standalone test strips give you an accurate reading in under one minute in terms of Mg and CaCO3 . Easy to read color blocks at 0, 125, 250, 500 & 1000 ppm Mg2+ and 0, 500, 1000, 2000, & 4,000 ppm CaCO3. As rainwater passes through soil and rocks it absorbs some of the hard metals it passes through (mostly calcium and magnesium).

Since this test measures subtle changes in colors to measure the degree of magnesium affecting your water hardness it’s hard to determine its accuracy in absolute terms. I initially saw little difference with the tap water and my filtered water which prompted me to put in a fresh filter where I quickly saw a differential between the two. I use it primarily for my espresso machine where magnesium is an important element in good tasting coffee. The test is easy to use and functional. Initially it takes some practice to discern the different shades of blue, but with practice it becomes a practical tool, and for a bargain at its price point.

I got these water test strips to check my well/softner water settings. They're easy to use: dip, shake off excess water, and wait one minute then read. The results are easy to compare to the chart on the bottle. My well water showed 500ppm and this final test of soft water shows near zero hardness. I would use these on a pool, hot tub, or other such items if needed. I'm very happy with the ease of testing using these.
