The XAD01Z features a Makita-built 4-pole motor that delivers 121 in. lbs. of Max Torque, with an all-metal transmission and 0-1,800 RPM’s for a wide range of drilling and driving tasks into steel and wood.
The XAD01Z weighs only 4.0 lbs. (with battery, sold separately) with over one foot of tool extension for extra reach into tough-to-reach spaces. The tool has a 3/8” keyed metal chuck for improved bit gripping power. In addition, the keyed chuck allowed engineers to reduce the size of the angle drill head to a very compact height of 2-5/8”, making it ideal for use in close quarters applications. The soft grip handle and conveniently-located paddle switch are designed for comfortable operation. The built-in L.E.D. light illuminates the work surface for more efficient work.

It is not often a makita tool sold in the US is made in Japan. This is a bit lighter than my 18v dewalt right angle drill that pushed to its limit and died. This one though has a really compact head that's 2 inches shorter than the old 18v dewalt keyless chuck right angle drill.Having a keyed chuck contributed to the short head but some may prefer a keyless chuck.This bare tool came with a handle, chuck key clip but NOT a belt clip.

I love how compact the drill head is perfect for make hole saw cutouts in electrical panels.The handle that come with it makes it stable.

Purposely bought key chuck because narrower space required than keyless version. Was able to get into narrow area perfectly to drill out broken bolt in engine block. Light on tool is great feature.

Does what its suppose to, fits in tight places, I wouldn't recommend the one with the key-less chuck as it takes up too much room.

I've been looking for a good compact right angle drill. This fits the bill perfectly, compact head, powerful, and cordless. Makita tools don't disappoint, and this has been a life saver

As an angle drill, it is nice made and very powerful. It is perfect for drilling where space is limited. I bought it for house renovation and it does a good job.The only thing which is not well designed is the battery position is outstanding. This makes things difficult when drilling or cutting hole (with holesaw) on a large panel, as the battery can touch the panel first before completing the drilling.
