Inexpensive but smooth and adjustable. The steel burr makes it function like a much higher end grinder. It is comfortable to use, made of heavy material and has a nice grip on the shaft and the handle. If you want a budget grinder, I recommend this one.

This little grinder does a great job grinding coffee beans for espresso drinks. I've not used it for pour over or French press, but it works perfectly for espresso. It takes a little time, a couple of minutes of cranking the handle, but works great.Note that the instructions say to turn the grind setting all the way in and then back it out 6-10 turns for espresso. But I think what they actually mean is 6-10 clicks, as 6-10 turns would be very coarse coffee grinds.

This is not just some plastic bodied with a few metal parts grinder. No this is a solid metal body with all metal gears. Plus it is a conical burr grinder with a very selectable grind. The handle is about perfect in length to get enough leverage to easily grind your beans but not too long that it gets in the way when not using it. The capacity is decent, perfect for espresso, but not large enough to brew a whole pot of coffee. You can see the conical burr parts and they are not just some thin metal parts that will break if the wrong bean gets lodged in there the wrong way. The entire look of this is simple but has that classic hand held profile. I bet this hand grinder can beat most electrical ones especially if they are priced under 30 or 40 dollars. This grinder allows you to really dial in your grind and get it to its best. If you love coffee as much as i do and enjoy making a great cup or shot this grinder should be in your arsenal.

This is my first manual coffee grinder and even though some instructions are given, I felt some of the information was too vague, so I had to go online to search for some information before I started using it. Just to make sure I didn't damage the unit. This involves some trial and error to figure out exactly what setting would work the best for your desired grind. The handle is beautiful with a nice wood finish and the whole thing is very solid, made of heavy metal with a nice black finish. I wish there was a way for the cover to lock in place once you put your beans in, You have to be careful if you set it down before you grind them because it is easy for the handle to fall off or for it to tip over and the beans can dump everywhere.I bought this for a French press. My first time using it I did too fine of a grind so I used it for my Keurig machine instead. The second time, I did it on the fourth setting and this was perfect for doing my French press. to do a cup or two, It took about 2 minutes of consistent grinding. You will get a little bit of a workout doing this. This is less messier than using my motorized grinder and it did a better job on consistency. The included brush did a good job cleaning it.I wish they would have included some type of cap to cover your reservoir once the coffee is grinded, so you could take it easily with you instead of having to put it into another container.

This worked well to grind to a very fine powder, though it took a surprisingly long time. I mainly wanted a grinder that can do a proper espresso grind and this does the trick. The build is sturdy and the mechanism works pretty well once you understand how it works. The canister will hold about 1 cup's worth of coffee grounds. For travel, this is nice, since it packs down pretty small. My one design gripe is the wasted space. The handle with the lid just sits on top of the shaft, which means if you wanted to transport it with coffee beans in the hopper, you'd have no way to ensure the lid stays on, so the space in the hopper will transport empty. And because the hopper lid is attached to the handle, it doesn't fit neatly beside the unit, so it's awkward to put in a cup holder or something. I'll still probably bring it along, because it's not going to get damaged like my Virtuoso grinder would, and I don't need electricity. It just doesn't strike me as the design to end all need for further exploration.

This is a pretty good coffee grinder at a good price. The adjustment gets locked up often. I’ve had to take it apart, several times just to be able to change the adjustment.

I've evaluated 7 different hand coffee grinders. If you want information on grain size distribution, the only real objective measure, look up reviews by James Hoffman.General observations about all of the ones I evaluated:> Only ONE had a useful, comprehensible, instruction set on how to use the grind adjustments.> Most had handles that come off while grinding.(The better ones have a ball catch arrangement on the handle shaft to keep it in place.)> Gearing (how many cranks to grind) varies a LOT between them...some require 10 cranks, others, 30 or more (per tablespoon, my test batch size).> All of these grinders have very poorly chased screw threads, where ever they are used.Hard to start the threading, sharp edges (I cut myself on this one). This one is by far the crudest.- Statements about gear set types is not particularly useful (to me), though I'd expect steel ones to be susceptible to rust over time, stainless ones will dull over time, and ceramic ones are kind of an unknown, but have hope for them?> Grind examples start at upper left (coarsest), counterclockwise, to upper right, closest to espresso grind (finest) I could get. All are somewhat random in adjustment ranges.===========================================MANUAL COFFEE GRINDER:Burr set: Stainless steel, conicalSmallest size of them, also the lowest price.Has some good documentation and 'how to' disassemble pictures.Handle is not captive, can come off during grinding.I had difficulty getting the grind size to go finer, but needed extra turns to get there, eventually I got it tuned close.A good place to start, for not much money.
