I bought these as a surprise for my son because I knew he'd like the color. He's a junior and has been playing the marimba for 4 years or so. He said these mallets are kind of firm/hard for marimba and would be better suited for xylophone. They don't have a very thick covering of yarn. They are noticeably louder than his other marimba mallets.

High school percussionist needed 4 mallets, and these work great for that. She says they are very smooth on the handles, and was very pleased with them. If my ultra-sensitive mini approves, they must be pretty good.

These are great on metal, like steel tongue pan hand drums. They really bring out clear tones and are light weight. The hard rubber and felt did not work like these. Hope they last, we'll see!
