Hook is not for a permanent or even overnight stay on a mooring ball. It is just to get your boat attached to the ring on a mooring ball. After you are attached then thread a more permanent line through the ring.I have used one of these for years and can attest to it's intelligent design.

You get what you pay for. This looks similar to the name brand hooks, but is much lower quality. Hook bent & failed under moderate load.
