Now I know why this trowel cost so little: it's made of flimsy material. Why should I be so surprised to find that a once mediocre tool manufacture like Marshalltown needed to raise their bottom line by switching to cheaper and inferior metals. And they don't try to hide it and hope the consumer won't notice. They do what every good advertising/ marketing team does now; they spin the lowered standards into a positive. They cut corners and claim it's to save the environment or to save the consumer money. In this case the flimsy metal and light weight welds are to help the user combat fatigue by not lifting any extra weight. This low quality tool won't last more than a few weeks before it cracks from metal fatigue. I just wish they had shown this detail before I purchased the trowel.
