About this item

  • ERGONOMIC DESIGN: Unlike other rotary cutters, the Martelli rotary cutter has a stylish unique design that promotes proper finger placement and feels good in your hand. It has a doughroller type design and is meant to be pushed forward in a similar motion allowing the cutter to do the work for you. Unlike other rotary cutters that require you to apply pressure downward as you cut and can cause wrist pain our cutter does the work for you with minimal pressure which means minimal pain!
  • SUPERIOR BLADES: Our rotary cutter comes equipped with a super sharp blade made with the highest quality metal alloy in the industry; tungsten steel. Our blades are sharpened on both sides simultaneously, so the blade comes down to an even point and cuts through fabric with ease. They last 3-5 times longer than ordinary blades and cut through multiple types of fabrics such as cotton, batik, linen, silk, polyester, denim, wool, vinyl, fleece, flannel, and more! Easy blade replacement with YouTube tutorial video. Just search "Martelli ERGO Rotary Cutter Assembly."
  • SAFE TO USE: All Martelli rotary cutters have spring loaded guards used to expose or hide the blade. The ability to hide the blade while the cutter is not in use prevents harm to the user, children, pets, etc. while also protecting the blade itself from damage. ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE BLADE IS COVERED WHILE THE CUTTER IS NOT IN USE!
  • HAND PREFERENCE: It doesn’t matter if you’re right handed or left handed. We make rotary cutters with everyone in mind! Right handed cutters come with a red rubber comfort grip handle and left handed cutters come with a blue rubber comfort grip handle. WHEN ORDERING PLEASE CONFIRM WHETHER YOU ARE ORDERING A RIGHT HANDED OR LEFT HANDED CUTTER.
  • SIZE OPTIONS: Our rotary cutters come in three sizes: 28mm, 45mm, and 60mm. The 45mm is our most popular option and is for general fabric cutting. The 28mm rotary cutter has the smallest blade and is used for more intricate cutting and minimal layers. The 60mm rotary cutter holds our largest blade and can cut as many as 6-8 layers of fabric at once.

Ergo 2000 Rotary Cutter. This left-hand cutter fits naturally into your hand position; features superb maneuverability; requires less pressure to cut; has an automatic release guard and is perfect for hands with arthritis; carpel tunnel syndrome; tendonitis and hand fatigue and an easily replaced 60mm blade. Rotary cutter measures approximately 2-1/8x4-1/2x3-1/4in.

The rotary cutter is pretty good. The blade is a tad bit thin, so it doesn't cut 4 layers of fabric very well. It is light, and maneuvers nicely. It takes a little getting use to, but if you are cutting a lot of fabric, it saves your hands, wrists, and forearm a lot of fatigue

Great product. Takes a bit of getting use to but saves your arm and shoulder and it’s made for a lefty!!

This is the first left handed rotary cutter i’ve used. It is super sharp and very comfortable. Easily cuts through 8 layers of flannel.

I purchased the Martelli left handed 60mm rotary cutter to ease the tendonitis in my left hand.

I have rheumatoid arthritis especially in my hands. This is the only rotary cutter I use. I can use it for long periods with no hand cramping. I also have tendon issues in both elbows, my old one broke and I needed to cut some fabric while waiting on the new one. I used a different brand and within about 1/2 my elbow was really hurting. I had to stop and wait for the new one to arrive.

Make sure you read the instructions on how to place your hand as the blade is very sharp. It does come with a blade. I love the safety guard really nice safety feature. I first learned about these ergonomic rotary cutters by Martelli at a quilt show. I already own one in 45mm but I wanted the larger one as I was cutting 4 yds of material into 2 1/2 strips. My first cuts were through four layers of material which it cut through like butter. Once I cut those I piled one on top of another 8 strips folded in half so that's 16 layers and it cut through them easily. I did all my cuts with one blade and it's still sharp. I highly recommend this product.

My primary issue with these rotary cutters is the blade. The blades are excellently sharp as Martelli claims and will cut more layers of fabric but they are SO EASY TO BREAK! I don't abuse my rotary cutter and I have a cutting mat in good shape, but I'm relatively new to quilting and sometimes manage to catch the ruler as I'm placing the blade for a cut. Not hard, just brushing it, the ruler shows no damage, but the edge on the blades just break off like they were made of glass rendering the blade useless. And the blades are EXPENSIVE! The ergonomics are great and I do believe this cutter is less fatiguing to use then any other I've tried. I like to be able to cut from both sides of the fabric so I needed a right and a left hand model to do that. Keep that in mind as these are not universal. You'll need two if you want to cut with both hands. It would be nice and probably more cost effective for them and us if they made them with a handle that could be unscrewed and moved the the other side.

I had won a right hand model of this rotary cutter and could not use it, just didn't feel right to me in the right hand even though I am quite ambidextrous. It is obvious that it would be very difficult to use the right hand design in the left hand, but I did try as any left handed person would. I liked the design and could see how well it could work with the proper hand. When I took this one out of the package and grasped it, it was a perfect feel. Tried it immediately and I would say this is the best rotary cutter I have ever used. Love it!!Thank you Martelli for not leaving us lefties out and making a truly left handed tool; not just a slightly modified right hand design without understanding how the tool really works in the left hand (i.e. some left handed scissors that just have the plastic handle modified so it doesn't pinch the left hand fingers but still is a right hand scissors that don't cut properly used in the left hand).UPDATE: I liked the 60mm model so much I purchased the 45mm model as well. It's even better! the 60mm unit cuts through many layers with no problems, however because of the size of the blade there is a slight feel of instability with side to side movement. That would be with all 60mm rotary I assume, due to the distance from the axis to the edge of the blade and the thinness of the blade. There is no evidence that it is not cutting correctly, it's just a feel of a wobble. The 45mm cuts like a dream!! It cuts so smooth and effortlessly that I had to double check that it was cutting at all! I stacked up quilters cotton 10 layers thick and it breezed through it with out a hitch. It is smaller and the hand fits it perfectly. It follows your movements as if it where part of your hand.
