It is stainless but not high quality stainless. Indeed sharp when new.

I cannot believe how sharp these shears are!! Sharpest I've ever owned. I love how light weight they are, I must be getting old because when using my other shears they can become heavy when holding them up over a long period of time. Yes the blades were smaller than expected but seriously I don't see it as a problem. These are so amazing!!

These Martha Stewart shears are very sharp and very easy to use. I got rid of all my old plants in a flash.

My old Fiskers shears broke when the set screw holding the back end of the blades together fell off. Then i realized that design can not be fixed easily.That why i got interested in Martha Stewart shears.The bolt and nut holding the blades should be easy to repair if they fail.I do like the design of the shears.But they are small shears, the blade portion is 6" long aprox. See pics attached. Instead you could just get some scissors.Also less than 5 minutes after I placed the order . the amazon website could not cancel it.Also they are expensive compared to other ones in the market considering their size.I have not tried the shears yet so i can not evaluate how they perform.But the two blades do seem to glide well.
