When you spend almost $2,000 on a guitar, the guitar should come with a hard case. This is particularly true when the sales material for the guitar indicates it comes with a hard case. See the photo attached to the review. Not happy storing my $2,000 guitar in the soft case it came with.

The product description clearly states in multiple locations "Plus, it comes with a hard-shell matte case for easy carrying." however, I received a soft case with mine. False advertising. When I saw that there was only one available, I went to the vendor's site to gauge the likelihood that I wouldn't be getting the last defective 15sm to be picked for the team. When it arrived, I went over it with much scrutiny. I was surprised to find that it appeared to be cosmetically, and structurally perfect in every way. Music Zoo did me right. The guitar arrived perfectly in tune. I played up and down the neck to find the guitar perfectly set up. Now as far as tone goes, I can't compare it to others since I only ordered one, but it sounds every bit as remarkable as I hoped it would. For such an unadorned, historical design, it sounds lively, responsive, rich, and warm. Once I discovered how easily the guitar takes my attempts at expression, the more I express. Adding reverb via finger or neck wobble is easier than any other acoustic guitar I've ever played. Did I mention it REEKS? Reeks in a very good way. When I open the case, out wafts the rich scent of mahogany. This guitar smells like it was a tree just a few days ago. In summary, good on Martin, and good on Musical Zoo for providing me with a quality product, despite not including the advertised hard case.

The 000-SM is a "standard" Martin guitar, built to reproduce the way they used to make them in the 20s or30s. It's all mahogany and very light weight and it looks vintage. I don't think this would stand up to very rough use, since the wood appears to be so light. That's why it resonates so well. I don't think I'll risk taking this one camping. This is my performance guitar. The basses are clean and deep. I restrung it with the Martin Medium 92/8 Phos Bronze strings, which give more depth to the trebles.Chicago Music Exchange sent it second day air and beat the delivery date by 2 days. It was very well packed and pre set up, so all I had to do was tune it and start playing. It has a nice feel like a seasoned guitar. It definitely has that Martin sound and resonance. I've tuned it "Sabastapol" (Open D) and it sounds great. I'll likely try several open tunings before settling on a favorite. I'll be playing this one a lot! I'm very pleased with the purchase and would recommend both the vendor and the guitar.

There were a couple of instrument suppliers that offered this discontinued model. I bought mine from GearTree. It arrived promptly (2 day shipping) in a standard Martin box. The guitar was shipped with the strings tensioned up to full pitch. Should never ship a guitar that way. Don't know if that was GearTree or the factory effort. No damage to the guitar though. This is a totally non frills guitar - you are buying this only for the sound and playability. No binding. Finish is a very light satin. Finishing not quite up to the standard of my other guitars, but those are more expensive. There was some wood dust embedded under several frets and I could hear wood chips rattling in the body. The bracing had a coarser finishing than my other guitars but that is just a cosmetic detail of little consequence. It comes with an ebony endpin that looks like a small black plastic one, so I bought a more substantial looking but still understated one from Stew Mac. Comes with Martin LifeSpan Light strings (12-54). The saddle was set higher than I am used to for fingerpicking - something to work on in the future. The case is a three latch TKL with a non archtop top that isn't very strong. The guitar fits perfectly in the case. Martin should supply a truss rod tool because it is hard to find one that has the extra length to reach the truss rod nut. You need a bare minimum of 12.5cm hex ball key.You either love or hate the sound of a mahogany top guitar. It is very warm in tone with highs that really sing. The sustain on the highs is VERY long. The bass is there too but a bit boxy in sound. Plenty of volume for a guitar this size and you can strum it. Can't comment on the playability in finger style because the action is high. Intonation was dead on comparing the open string to the harmonic on the 12 fret. Playing with only 12 frets to the body will take some getting use to as the neck feels wider at the 12th fret compared to a 14 fret to the body guitar. I am also losing track of which fret to play since I am so used to a 14 fret guitar. The side markers are extremely small gray dots that are hard to see and the abalone snowflake markers on the fret board are not very bright.I would have liked a description of the tonewood used in this guitar to come with it. Is it sapele, or sipo, or what? For the price, I don't think it is a traditional mahogany like Honduran.I love learning to play with this guitar. It sounds great to me. It is extremely light and a smaller size than my dreadnaught guitars. And did I mention that the aroma of the mahogany is intoxicating.
