The chawan on the left is $170 from Japan. The chawan on the right is $29.99 from Amazon. Your choice! The Amazon chawan is slightly less orange than the photo shows, toward pastel/peach when seeing it in person. Made and glazed well. Not with the craft of a handmade piece, but quite good. Orange peel-like texture on the outside, more smooth on the inside for easy matcha whisking. I’m no pottery expert, but the clay used seems to be slightly softer and maybe a tiny bit porous on the surface than a harder earthenware clay. The foot of this chawan was a little rough at first, which required a few seconds of sanding with 120-220 sandpaper. Otherwise, good value for the price.
