Advantages compared with traditional BEC:
Compared with BEC with linear voltage stabilization, BEC with switching power supply has the following advantages: when using more than 3s (11.1v) batteries, BEC heating can be greatly reduced and overall efficiency can be improved.
For example, when using 4s lithium batteries, the voltage is about 14.8v in normal use.
Adopting linear voltage regulation mode, the power supply must input 1A current to output 5V/1A current. Therefore, there will be 14.8V x 1A = 14.8W power consumed on BEC. However, the actual useful output of BEC is only 5V x 1A=5W, so the overall efficiency is only 5/14.8= 33.8%. Besides, the power consumption of 9.8W will be converted into heat, which will cause BEC overheating and the chip entering the protection state and fail to work.
Adopting switching power supply mode, the actual tests show that there is only need to input 0.38A current to output 5V/1A current. The power is 14.8V x 0.38A = 5.6W, so the overall efficiency is 5/5.6=89.3%.

I know the description says that it has reverse polarity protection - but a 2S liFe pack cooked the unit in a few seconds. My fault (I wired it reverse polarity by mistake) - but just be aware that whatever reverse polarity protection it has is insufficient to protect it from wiring "wizards" like me! :-)

I purchased two of these. One has failed after about an hour of use. 8volts input with about 250ma load.Not good. Fortunately it failed while on the bench. I will not trust this device on my RC models. I give it two stars because when it was working it put out a steady clean 5 volts.

I liked it and it works well. Be aware of the slight over voltage that it produces though. I amusing it to drive a raspberry pi and it is fine for that job. Pi accepts 5v +/- 5%.
