They are used to create right hand threads in a range of materials. It is available in two different ANSI standards: UNC (Unified Coarse) and UNF (Unified Fine). The premium high speed steel material provides long tool life. The straight flutes are suitable for threading through holes and blind or bottoming holes.
This uncoated taps can be used on a broad range of materials. The round shank with square driver makes the taps suitable for hand or power-driven applications.

This tap set fits one of the most common threads… 3/8x16. (Other sizes available.)Made of high speed steel, they work well to hand cut threads on mild steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials. The three different taps make it easy to cut threads for through or blind holes, including bottoming holes. The tapered tap makes it easy to start a deeper hole and keep the tap aligned while cutting by hand, then finish with one of the other taps.This is only the taps. You’ll need to provide your own handle or other tool to actually use them.

The tape I got were made from hardened steel as they should be, couldn't make a mark with a file. The cutting edges are very sharp as well. But the listing shows 3 different taps-plug, bottom, and taper (whatever that is). I got 3 identical taps. They came in a nice plastic case, in a box, in a bag. The case has dividers between each tap (so they do not hit each other during shipping I suppose). The price actually seems high as I have seen a drill bit and tap at the mega home store for only $4 - but I now nothing about the quality. These do seem to be quality bits though even if they are not what the listing shows.
