I had a lot of fun playing with Ajax gears. I used the worm gear to transfer the motion from a music box sized gear to the Ajax gears which I used to set up a spinning scene. Worked for me.

I purchased these gears to use for a DIY camera project--and these are too small to work with the stepper motors that I had originally intended to use them on, so I'd recommend these if you are going to use small DC motors.It does have a pretty decent build quality, and it's pretty awesome and would work well for DC motor projects.
